What type of bag to use??

Hi everyone!

I just found this message board and have learned alot already. My 84 year old mother receieved an ileostomy due to colon cancer.  We are all new to this and we're learning daily.  We seem to have trouble with what kind of bag to use.  She has trouble with the clips that comes along with the bag. We need to find something that she is able to use when she is on her own.

Any advice??

Here in Britain we are given a phone number of an ostomy nurse who we can call on when we need help with anything. If you Mother doesnt have a nurse she can call,you could try phoning around the different Ostomy bag suppliers for samples. I cant speak for the other companys but I do know that Coloplast have people on hand that can give you advice over the phone.I have used the Coloplast drainable one piece Assure with velcro from day one. With the velcro,it means you dont have to fiddle about with added clips that could be accidently dropped down the toilet.

If you type Coloplast into google you should be able to see all the different bags that they make. You will find the phone number there too.

Hollister also has a velcro bag that i have used and it works good

We are new to all of this, too. It seems to us there should be something better than what we are using, but the good news is: Those plastic clips get easier to use after they have been used several times.
