well everyone i am back home now after getting my proctolectomy/permanent ileostomy surgery. 16 days in the hospital, but i seem to be doing OK now. i've lost 25lbs. i'm starting to get used to having a bag, although it's quite cumbersome :( i've had two showers with it and it didn't fall off so i guess i'm over fear #1 lol.

can someone list off other brands of bag manufacturer's and where to buy? what does everyone else use? right now i'm using a hollister new image 12", i'm sure it's the cheapest/biggest 'cause the hospital gave it to me, but i need to find something else that'll work better with my clothing. any input appreciated..

I recommend you have an ET nurse visit you at home.  They are really good at evaluating the stoma and making product recommendations.  They will also supply you with various samples for you to work with.  Congratulations on your return home and successful surgery.  Weight will increase, be patient.

yeah i'm all set-up with a home et nurse for the next 3 months...she only pushes hollister products though, perhaps they're the best or the only manufacturer?

There is one other manufacturer and that's Convatec.  Convatec will send you free samples but you kind of need to know what your stoma is like, is it concave, or does it stick way out, etc.  An ET nurse can describe your situation and you can call Convatec for free samples.  I am VERY surprised that your nurse only uses on brand of product.  It's not about selecting a brand but getting the right appliance to the ostomate.

i checked out convatec's website...not a huge selection over there. i'll ask my et nurse about them when she comes again. thanks
