My husband had his colon removed and reconstruction surgery with an S pouch on Feb 16, 2007. Since that time he has had a lot of rectal pain (burning and stabbing pain) to the point that pain meds (Percocet) would only bring the pain down to a level of 4 in a 0 to 10 scale and for only 2 hours at best. Then the pain would go up to a 9 or higher during the last hour before taking any more meds. The doctor figured it was loose staples and had them removed last Tuesday, March 20th. Our hopes were high as the pain med was working the full 4 hours and even 5 hours. It has been been 5 days now and it seems the pain is getting worse again. Is this common? Why is he having so much pain when the S pouch isn't even reconnected yet? Is this something we should be concerned about?
