Lisa here a new member, but have had a complete Illeostomy since February 18, 2003 . I Use the Convatec convex 1 piece system and the new eakin seals I love them they work great for me. I found that if you use skin prep or adhesive remover they fall off easy but alone they work awesome and I don't get rashes anymore. my question is where is there a good online chatroom for ostomates. I am looking to talk to others about my experience. Also does anyone have phantom pain like they have to poop? sometimes I will sit on the pot and find myself trying to go #2. That of course is impossible. Just wondering if that happens to others or if I may need to talk to my Doc or surgeon about it?

The pain you're talking about Lisa is called Phantom Rectal Pain. Just like someone who loses a limb can still 'feel' it itching, so our bodies have to get used to it's new plumbing. The only way I found to relieve it was to go and sit on the loo even though I knew nothing would come of it.

The good news is that in time it diminishes in frequency and eventually disappears altogether :)

As for chats, if you Google, you should find some chat rooms for ostomates as well as the one here on Healingwell.

I've had my ileostomy since August '05 and I also still get "the urge". My doc says it's normal. I still have my large intestine and sometimes I get a mucousy discharge. Again, the doc says this is normal.

Thank you for letting me know that the"URGE" is normal. My brain knows that my body is missing parts. I just cant get my body to remember that.. LOL!! Thank you for the help.. Lisa

i have that feeling every once and a while, it seems to be worse when i have to pee though, lol

I have a transverse colostomy and Ihave the urgealmos tevery day.about two or three weeks ago, I was greatly surprised when everything functioned correctly. There were not many stools and they were kind of a pasty gray, but it did happen, Actually with the transverse colostomy the opening in the bowel is on top of the colon and does not separate it in two. I get the urge to have a bowel movement all the time. It's weird because I have Hirschsprungs Disease. That causes chronic constipation. All my life I very rarely get the urge to go to the bathroom. Since I have had my ileostomy I have had the urge to go more in these 4 months then I ever did in the 30 years I have been alive.
