glad press & seal users, step in plz! :)

i tried the GLAD press & seal stuff over the bag in the shower a couple days ago.  seemed to stick fine, but after about 5 mins it was off.  just the water cascading over the edges where it seals pushed the seal down until it came off.  and the hot water seemed to shrink the material.

is this normal?  any tips/tricks?  i tried to keep the water off it as much as possible, and i had about 1.5-2" of seal all around....so what's the deal, i thought this stuff worked great.  do i need to have more of it in contact with the skin to work right maybe?

Obviously whatever brand you're using isn't sticking very well. You should be able to get a shower with your appliance on and have no problems at all. In fact, you should be able to enjoy a bath or hot tub without problems, not to mention a swimming pool or the ocean.

You may want to try and figure out why it's not sticking well. Do you use a skin barrier? What brand do you use, you may want to switch, the tape may be stronger. You may want to use water proof tape around the edges of your flange.

It's not "normal" for an appliance not to hold up for a shower. It's time to change something. It may be as simple as you having oily skin under the flange. I always clean my skin under the flange (in the shower on change days) with an antibacterial soap that has the tendency to dry it out a little. This cuts back on the oils in your skin and helps prevent things from growing under there.

i tape mine all around too, i use the paper tape, it works better, i thinkand comes off easier, i put a big piece around, and tape the edges all around. it still gets alittle wet,but not nearly as bad

Good point, Smoke...the bag's coming off and me and my stoma are off to take a shower!

I wear a one piece and take the whole thing off and shower naked once a week on change day. If my stoma decides to 'go' then it all goes down the plug hole anyway. Harriet (my stoma) appreciates having the warm water run over her and it gets her nice and clean ready for her new bag. :)

The rest of the time I don't use anything special when I shower with my bag on. I just step out of the shower and towel dry my bag (mine has the cloth coverings on it) then dry the rest of me, get dressed and let body heat do the rest (it only takes a few minutes). The less time I spend worrying about my stoma and bag the better :)
