They finally came via UPS today! I'm so excited to try them out.

I got the Hollister New Image 2 piece appliance, with both mini pouches and drainable standard pouches. They both have filters though, which makes me nervous. The last thing I want is a way for stool to leak through. Trial and error though, right?

I'm actually going to change the appliance tonight, and am wondering if I should wait until tomorrow to do so, this way if there IS a leak(knock on wood that there won't be) it'll be easier to deal with than sleeping while it happens.

Also, the drainable pouches are the New Image Lock & Roll bags. I'm a little nervous to try them because I'm so used to the security of the clip that I use with the Convatec bags. Does anybody use them? I'm afraid that I'll be running to the bathroom every hour to empty a drop of stool out of the bag, for fear that the tail will unroll and empty the contents. Eekk!

How full do you let your bag get before emptying? Sometimes mine is about 1/3 full before emptying(while at home) and I like knowing that at least with the clip, I don't have to worry much.

I always wear these bags and I have never had any problems with the lock and roll system. My bags can get pretty full at night because I drink a lot of prune juice. I let my bags get half full before I empty. Do not worry about running to the bathroom repeatedly. These bags are very stable and can hold quite a bit of contents.

i can't see how those clips hold, they scare me, jsut that little bit of plastic! I think once you see how the velcro rolls up you will see that it doesnt' come open easily. I accidentally let mine get pretty full sometimes too, and no problems so far.

The tan Convatec clips scare me too. I kept asking my ostomy nurse..."Are you sure these things will hold" and " How do you know they are not going to pop open?" I was so glad to get away from those things and get into the Lock and Roll system. Can you use a clip right above the velcro on the Hollister? If it makes you feel better, you might want to try it.

Nah, I've been using velcro for over 3 years now and my bag can get pretty full at night to bursting point but the velcro has never ever come undone. I much prefer it to clips which can accidentally become unclipped sometimes. :)

I have to tell you that I just LOVE reading these posts: i am a UC wife and am trying to prepare myself and then subsequently my 62 year old husband IN THE CASE we need an ileostomy. Your conversations are so informative and invaluable to me as I believe preparation is so important... now he was only diagnosed Nov2 but want to be ready for whatever is recommended... You are all wonderful and all that practical stuff is so good.... so really i am just lurking here... I have seen your photos and they are so encouraging....

I have been using the Hollister bas from day one and never, but once, had a problem with the velcro seal. That time I caught the bag onsomething hard enough to break the seal. I could never get those danged clips to close, so I never used them. If you are patient squeezng the tail of the pouch it will finally open. I onten use a piece of tissue to run down the ooutside and claean out any poo I can.

chloe-i am glad that we can be of help to you, i hope that whatever your husband choses he does well with it.

the only problem i do have everyonce in a while with the velcro ones is that they will get little tears in the plastic, that has happened with two batches of bags, the first one i sent back and the second i havent' yet, but i am going too. Luckily though, when that does happen, it is such a small leak you can't tell until you start to unroll it.
