Solvent use and Parinsons - Early-onset Parkinsons Help please

Hi everyone who reads this I do not have parkinsons myself but I am trying to find out as much information as possible, my father has parkinsons. I live in New Zealand and tring to help my father go through the government we have to try and prove or even show that working with solvents can cause early onset parkisons. My father has worked with numerous amounts of solvents for the last 30 years, he was diagnosed several years ago. What I want is just someone to say yes it can be a causing factor. I would need documents of possible others and I dont really know how to go about any of this? If anyone has any infomation or links that they think may be helpful I would really appreciate it

Go to search engine Google,and search trichloroethylene,and nervous disorders.There is reams of info there.Ed

That was great information thanks, just wondering if you have heard of any other solvents linkled for instance:
toulene, xylene, phenolic resin, solvent primer, methylene chloride, Ados F2 (nhexane), heptane, colpor or polychloro prene, these are several of the different solvents my father has worked with over the past 30 years?

I would check with the international MND/ALS symposium.. ASk for Mr. Dickie and please report back. They are internationally out of the UK.

I was diagnosed with traditional young-onset PD at age 31. 

I grew up on a farm and was exposed to many petroleum derivatives and pesticides. I also had surgery at a young age that required general anesthesia.  

Google searches of  'petroleum based pesticides parkinsons disease' and 'anesthesia causing parkinsonian'  should return numerous links some of which might reference the solvents youre interested in.

Hope this helps.

By the way: In the US parkinsons disease is a SSD(isability) first application approval.

Glad to hear about the SSDI as I am now putting in my application.  As for solvents, when I worked on the oil rigs we washed our hands in diesel fuel and solvents because it worked so well and we had a non-existent safety program.  P.S.  I just received some material yesterday from a Viet Nam combat vet about agent orange, etc that was used in that era.

sad  I am sorry to hear about your family member.  My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease two years ago.  He is 65 now.  We regularly go to Parkinson Society meetings and find them very supportive. 

At present, they have no idea what causes Parkinson's disease.  There are thoughts that perhaps genetics, free radicals, toxins in the environment may contribute but no concrete evidence of such.

There are many great websites to look at.  Just search online and a host of websites will come up.  Also try your local bookstore and/or library for more information.

It's always a tall order to plod through websites searching for needed info and direction, so to facilitate the journey I wanted to mention some well known PD organizations worth checking out and possibly reaching out to (there are many other sources): The Movement Disorder Society in Adelaide, Australia, Parkinson's Disease Foundation in NY, National Institute of Neurological Disorder and Stroke (NINDS) at NIH in Maryland, Parkinson's Disease Society in London, Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in NY, The Cure Parkinson's Trust in London, WE MOVE in NY. 

Also there are webcasts of scientific conferences held by organizations such as PDF, www.pdf.org,

which I think are accessible to everyone.

I believe next year the "2nd World Parkinson Congress" (www.worldpdcongress.org) will take place which is a forum for the presentation of important developments from all over the world about PD covering medical & scientific research, treatment options, quality of life issues, etc. 

This sounds like it should be worth following up on for state-of-the-art information.

Hi everybody - have a look see on this video - there is a link drawn between paraquat which is/WAS widely used as a herbicide and incidences of krapinsons - great film but serious stuff contained therein,
