hi Im a newbie in here... Have had PD for 10 years and 1 month.  1 year and 1 month ago I had DBS units implanted and doing well, but now I am having swallowing issues - and having the tests done to see if it is the PD or something else.  Any one ever heard of this or have run into the swallowing issues and if so what are you doing about it? ty for your thoughts...

Swallowing issues are not so uncommon with PD. I think the timing may be coincidental, although your programmer should be informed. I'm pretty new in this forum too. I've had PD for a very long time (officially diagnosed in 1987, but symptomatic for many years before that)

Hi I also have swallowing problems and a slight tremor at about 4am each morning but I know I have Lyme disease so I would get yourself a western blot test done asap because it may be something thats treatable

A referral to a Speech therapist for a swalllowing eval would be a good place to start.

Hi, my name is Al and I was diag. with PD. about 2 yrs ago. After major heart surgery, however I am sure that I had syptoms of pd that were not diag. before that. My only effects are tremor in right arm, slowness in walk, I am 74 years old and I can't remember things as I used to and I tend to get confused at times. I have developed some problems with the swallowing issue also. I tend to make sure I chew my food well and take smaller bites. I am fortunate that I am a veteran, and treated by the neors. docs. there at the VA. These docs, see more PD patients in one month than a private neo. will in a year.
