Sinemet not working for newly diagnosed Parkinson's

Hoping someone may have had same experience.  Husband newly diagnosed with Parkinson's by Movement Disorder Dr.  Started 2/13/09 on 1/2 pill 25/100 3x daily for 1 week.  Increased to 1 pill 3x daily since last Saturday 2/21/09.  He has felt no change at all.  Dr. said he would feel change on 2/14.  Has anyone had same experience or is just a matter of time that at some point this medicine will kick in?  Thanks!!!

its takes a little time to show up what i mean he will see some change soon it was the same for me that was almost three yrs ago

Are you still on Sinemet & same dose?

I have been dx since end of Aug. Started on Requip (could not tolerate it, nausea, bladder spasms). Started Mirapex and Sinemet at the end of Sept.
in the usual small upward increases. My MD was very conservative about the increases. I am now at max dose Mirapex 1.5 mg three times a day. And Sinemet 25/100 three times a day. My right arm tremor is still very poorly controlled. I am waiting until the middle of March to see the Neuro MD again. I assume I will go through another med change, since the current therapy does not control my symptoms. I have been lurking around PD chat rooms and find that sometimes it just takes a while. It is frustrating. But I read simular history from those that go before me. I find that people who are use to being "in control" are the ones who suffer most. I was resistant to the suggestion but found the psychologist to be a good soundboard for my frustrations. I get to vent. It feels sooooo good to have someone to complain to when you don't have to worry about it getting repeated. And she always left me with something to think about. I am very independent. Before PD I liked to play my cards close to the vest. I am learning to open up more. Believe me it helps to have a non family member outlet. You wear out your significant others. We get overloaded with symptoms, emotions, and questions. Stress makes my symptoms worse. Even the silent stress I do not share. My psychiatrist thinks my symptoms will improve when I come to terms with my dx. He may be correct.

The following may seem premature, but he has decided to also get tested for lyme disease. He still not has accepted diagnosis & he feels that since the sinemet is not working, perhaps he doesn't have PD.

My husband was also on Sinemet 25/100 for a short time. Again the dose was slowly increased but it had no effect and seemed to make it worse. We didn't believe it was PD either. He has just had a DaTScan that shows it is definitely PD and is now taking Azilect and Requip, again slowly increasing the doses and up to now no side-effects. His neurologist says this time medication will work and believes the reason it didn't before is he was so resistant to having PD. Reading this site though it seems everyone takes a while to sort out the meds.

I was diagnosed a few months ago.
At first I was just put on Requip XL, and then my doctor started me on Sinemet 10/100. I take it 3xs a day.
It took a while for it took work, but it really helped me with all my symptoms.

I am the new kid on the block. I was diagnosed 4 years ago. My treatment consisted of Mirapex and Sinemet (yellow) More recently I was taken off the Mirapex and put on 25/250 blue sinemet. This only worked for a short time and now I just started apo-lapodopa 50/200 CR . I still have a lot of leg cramping and freezing . Even my toes are starting to curl. Does anyone have any suggestions what I can do about my intensely sore legs? My sleep paterns have left a lot of room for improvement. Thank-you to anyone who can help.[url]

Ever since I bought a heating pad that goes across the foot of my bed, my leg pain during the night has gone down to tolerable, the overnight distonia in my feet has lessened, and I sleep better. Walking helps to control lower leg pain during the day, and it carries over at night. Suggest you walk a mile before bedtime. Not moving (rolling over, etc.) causes a lot of the pain. Hope this works for you.

My symptoms are shaking on right side only as yet. Diagnosed in 2007 at age 67 the symptoms have worsened slightly eg my right leg now shakes as well as my right arm. But there are times when the medication seems to have complete control and I have no shakes at all. Tried a few drugs, but in an effort to avoid side effects kept changing until Sinamet. I was on Sinemet plus Sifrol for 12 mnths - effective but the side effects of Sinemet (which grow with time) could eventually not be tolerated, so my Neurologist changed me to Sifrol and Madapar (Australia). This is working OK but I notice an increase in cramps.

Anything that gets the adrenalin going brings on the shakes quite badly (is anybody else like this ?). I used to do some public speaking, but now the adrenalin rush in the 1st few minutes would embarrass me too much. The last short talk I gave (5 minutes) left me in such a state that my whole body (not just the right side) was shaking violently for some 3 or 4 minutes.

But getting to the point of the original post - It took some months for tablets to take effect at the beginning. So hang in there and you will eventually enjoy some relief

was diagnosed 2 years ago. just stopped sinimet and feel much better. you must walk every day for leg and hand cramps. keep trying different medications

I went on sinemrt 250/25 6 months ago. My walking just worsened. DOc hospitalised me and took me off them. After 3 days I had not walked so well for years. Doc told e to go back on them. Now my walking is hopeless again. How are you doing mayor?
