Carbidopa-Levodopa - How long did it take to work?

Hi,

Just started taking Carbidopa-Levodopa last week along with 3mg of Requip 3 x per day.

I was wondering what to expect.....

How long did it take till you felt the positive effects of this treatment?

My doc has me on a slow build (1 tab for a week, 2 tabs the next week and so on) - I have been taking it for 1 tab for less than a week .

So far, no changes - am I expecting too much to soon?

GJGPWP,You are expecting too much to soon.In addition if you have mild symptoms you may not notice minor changes in symptoms.Some respond well to levodopa some don't.In addtion your response can vary from dose to dose,and day to day.I"ve benn on levodopa(stalevo,sinemet)for over 12 yrs,and I still differ in my resonse to this drug.I go from complete loss of symptoms to little or no loss with each dose.Hang in there,and consult with your neurologist with any concerns or questions.Wish you the best.Ed

Be sure,and let us know how you are doing with in a few weeks,or sooner if your meds kick in>Ed

It is very dependent on what protein you eat an hour before or after you take it I find that it takes 30 to 45 min to work if my offtime kicks in Comtan helps greatly in it's absorbtion and I find it very helpful with no side effects except brown urine. I also take Amantadine which helps temmors I'd have PD 7+ years and in stage 4 . Various drug combos need to have personal experience to see what works best.

I'm taking Carbidopa-Levadopa_Entac 3X a day and Primadone at night. It seeems like the tremors have lessened, but I now have more back pain. Anyone?

Update: Had an MRI and it shows herniated discs in my neck, so pains unrelated to Parkinsons.

My husband has have pd since 2004- he is on Carbidopa-levodopa-3m requip-and artane- it was ok for month- then out of the blue the Hallucinations start up again- it start out that the things he was seeing were only at night now it is in the daylight, I have to keep all the doors shut in the house - he think that they are trying to kill him now, I took him off the artane -hoping that will help, this started Friday night, On Monday I'm calling the doctor- From everything I have read he is in the final stages. I don't know what to do any more I know sooner or later he will be in a nursing home, any help from anyone who been on these meds and have had the same problems. is welcome

I would encourage you to contact your husband's neurologist/doctor and describe your observations/concerns. Perhaps they have an  after-hours on-call phone number. If your medications are mail order, there may be a pharmacist on call. A pharmacist could not, however, change any medications. They might be able to give you some feedback on potential causes of the hallucinations.

 

I strongly discourage you from modifying medications without a doctor's approval.
