My understanding is that it is based on the level that it affect your daily functioning. I am getting a lot of different information from web searches and am trying to figure out where my mom is and what we are facing with her. Right now she has moved in with my family and I about 6 weeks ago. She is delusional and thinks we are stealing from her and ruining her life. She wandered off today and the police found her and took her to the hospital. So far since she has been home she has tried to jump out of 2 windows and has tried to go out the front door. I don't think she could have acutally made it out the window, but she used to be really limber. She had one leg out but couldn't lift herself over the ledge. She has hallucinations and talks to people that arent there from time to time. She can walk some mornings but usually by the evening she is in such a state of tremors that she can't eat or drink anything. Some days she wakes up with tremors so bad she can't do anything.
The sad thing is that when she physically is at her worst, she is emotionally at her best because she realizes that we are helping her and that she needs it. Today was a really, really good day physically where she never got to the heavy tremor stage. Unfortunately, she thinks she doesn't need help and says I am imprisoning her. I hate that she feels that way, but she has become a danger to herself some time ago. I am ashamed to say that I wonder how long it will be before she gets to the point where she will stop trying to leave. She was always a control freak and wouldn't ask anyone for help under any circumstances. This is so devastating.
