burnout rate of caregivers

First of all, I am so sorry that your dear mother has PD. My mother also had PD and I lost her early in 2010.
I am glad that you and your family are so very blessed to have Long Term Care which provides your mom 24/7 care and allows her to stay in her home. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to place my mom into a nursing home to provide skilled care 24/7 but she never stopped asking to go home.
I do not know if 2 years is a common time frame for your moms caregivers but speaking personally from being a caregiver to both of my parents for many years, I would not doubt that it would be common. Hopefully you will find a caregiver who will stay with your mom on a permanent basis so that she will not have to adjust to new people in her home. My best advice is to love your mother while you have her

I am a caregiver and I work with an agency. I am a 24/7 live-in aide who takes care of a beautiful woman with very severe symptoms of PD. I have been fortunate to work for this family who understands that this job is very tasking. It is important to give your caregiver respite. I have been with my current client for 3+ years and I intend to stay with her for as long as she continues to draw breath. It is difficult. Extremely difficult, both physically and emotionally tasking. It is important to let the caregiver go out and have fun..do what she wants. Most agencys will grant your caregiver a week off after working for a month. I can tell you it is not ideal. Every day is diffcult and if they continue with this schedule, they will quit on your loved one sooner than you think. Please try and give her a few hours off every week..even if it means sitting with your loved one . It is very important. This family lets mme go to church every sunday and I look forward to doing just that. It makes caring for their mother easier because I know they appreciate me.
