Is PD inherited? Good question. From everything that I have read and talking with my neurologist- there is a 5 - 10% chance of inheriting PD from a family member. The odds increase if multiple family members develop PD. I have young on-set Parkinson's and my father developed Parkinson's later in life, age 69. Whether I directly inherited my PD from my father is an
open for debate, but the neurologist feels that I probably inherited the predispostion for it. Being predisposed to having PD does not necessarily mean that you will go on to develop full blown PD, but a catalyst of some type (be it environmental or etc.) may trigger the on-set.
