pdinfo,
I am a believer in the benefits of exercise for people with Parkinson's. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2001. I started a rigorous exercise routine about 6 months ago - boxing ... at least a boxing- based fitness program (no punching people). We do push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, jump rope, hit the heavy and speed bags, etc. The boxing routine has us doing the activity for 3 minutes, then resting 1 minute. Ever tried jumping rope for 3 minutes straight? And not just 1-three minute set, but three ... for a total of 9 minutes jumping rope?
I'm actually in a boxing class for people with Parkinson's. I have seen improvement in every single person. One gentleman came to class hunched over and shuffling. Two-three months later, he walks much more upright, doesn't shuffle, and is jumping rope. I feel my posture and gait has improved. I'm also quicker and move agile. Overall, my physical confidence has improved.
I highly recommend ANY type of exercise for people with Parkinson's.
