sorry if im not doing this right, ive never used a chat room before. my dad was diagnosed w/ pd 5 years ago (age 60) . hes been doing really well emotionally, mentally and physically. all of his symptoms have been controlled by mirpax and sineset....until a few months ago. he had been hallucinating ALOT. its gotten too be very scary. it started that he would think a friend or family member was sitting near and he would try to talk to them. that was sad, bad could be dealt with. but lately he sees men in the bushes and men in the hills. recently they are also on his computer. we tries to get them and talk to them. i look at them w/ him, shake the bushes w/ him...i dont know what to do. the doctors put him on sequel, then took him off when it didnt help. reduced his med, still no help. even if no one has any ideas on how to help...is this something that just happens w/ PD. we are soo scared. just let me know if its common and we are not alone.

thanks for answering back. we did try sereqoel and unfortunately it didnt help. ill will ask his dr avbout the other meds you mentioned. him really believing that these men are after him is the scariest thing. ive heard about the dementia w/pd i guess we were just hoping its something that we can get under control. i used to work in the alzheimers unit in a nursing home and i never saw anything this bad. but maybe i didnt notice b/c it wasnt my dad. thanks again for your help. if the meds cant help let me knowif you have any other suggestions on dealing w/ it. if it cant be fixed maybe there is at least a way of coping. thanks again

Yonkers, No one would have ever been able to convince me that I would see something that wasn't there, but it happened.  I took the wonder drug that is advertised (interestingly-not for PD) on tv all the time and I saw bugs.  For awhile I thought that we were just having a rash of bugs until I realized that I was seeing things.  I had some other reactions that landed me in the ER, but the point is that medication can affect different people in different ways and this is a possible (but only a possible) factor in what he is experiencing.  Unfortunately PD is a degenerative disease affecting the brain and that organ is the control center for the rest of the body including the eyes.  Add the effects of medication to that and it begins to make our lives a bit different than we were pre-PD.  Very important-please do not make any major changes in medication without talking it over very carefully with your neurologist (the doc-not his nurse).  There are medications which can help with such problems and you may have to consider them.  We don't like to keep adding meds  because we don't want to wind up in the "jungle room" taking handfulls of pills (sorry E!).  Sometimes it's unavoidable to add new meds and sometimes a new neurologist.  Do have a very detailed discussion with the doctor and please keep in touch with the forum.  Good luck.
