Bags,
I was diagnosed in 2001 in my early 40's. I have been VERY fortunate to have had a slow progression - still work full-time and do everything I ever did - just with a bit of a shake (tremor) at times.
When you start on meds is a personal choice. You have to weigh the pros - symptomatic relief and improved quality of life ... and cons - side effects either short-term or long-term. You can always try 'Plan A' and go to 'Plan B', if/when necessary. Going on any med is not an irreversible decision. In fact, getting the right medical treatment plan can be a work in progress for awhile. Don't get discouraged if a particular med doesn't work or has unacceptable side effects. Everyone is different both in their symptoms and side effects. Keep searching until you and your doc find the right fit.
'Treatment plan' can mean different things. Meds are one facet. I am a believer that exercise is another. I would encourage anyone with PD to get involved in some type of exercise. There are studies that suggest exercise MAY BE neuro-protective and MAY slow the progression. I believe that rigorous exercise - a boxing-based fitness program for pwp - has slowed my progression.
Above all I believe that you are your best advocate. Work WITH your doc/neuro/MDS. You know what works best for you. Educate yourself on your meds and treatment alternatives. Play an active role. It's your life/health.
