Hi, I'm new here...my Mom has had PD for 16 years now. I have 24 hour care for her (which doesn't seem to be enough as of late) and I am with her every last second I have morning, noon and night.
A month ago my Mom took a turn which I didn't see coming. She had been able to scoot around with a walker, sit in a chair, sit on a commode...and one morning she woke up with (what looked like) a seizure. What was strange was that she could hear everything I said to her. I called 911 and off to the hospital we went. After a week of tests they told me that is was NOT seizures that she was experiencing. They couldn't nail it down with an exact explanation at all.Her Neuro said it was "extreme anxiety" coupled with the Paracopa and natural progression of the disease. I don't know if I buy that. I've had my nose in the computer for a week and it seems that the prolonged use of anti PD meds can cause a breaking down in the tissue surrounding the motor, sensory and autonomic nerves.
She is as sharp as a tack, she knows exactly what is going on although she is saying some strange things like "she's floating, her legs are floating, she's turning inside out, she's on a roller coaster"....
I don't know what's happening, she's scared, I'm scared...
I was hoping someone new something about this.
Her symptoms are " bed ridden, extreme sensitivity to touch, excess saliva, slurry speech, food tastes bad, violent tremors, fingers look arthritic, limbs are stiff, can't regulate body temp, odd feelings of floating....
I realize some of these are PD as well but she went from maintaining to this in a DAY!
I've read so much I don't even know where to look anymore.
I read something tonight about Clozapine (sp?)... I was wondering if anyone has heard about that?
Okay...her night time caregiver just called and my Mom is refusing to take her pills so I'm off to calm the waters. Any info or advice would be wonderful...
Take Care all...
