My mum diagnosed with parkinson 12 years ago. She is independent all these while until Sept last year when she has hallucination/delusion. After few rough months, finally her hallu/delusion will keep at bay with Seroquel (her dosage is 100mg x 2 tabs a day).

She currently complains about 'hot' (on her ankle and sometimes to leg and at night will be whole body) especially during 'off' period and at night. She is taking Stalevo 100, 5 times a day (7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm, 7pm)..we brought her to the neuro who said her 'hot' is due to her medicine and he asked us to give her the dosage at night too...

but seems now the medicine didnt work too well for her coz sometimes after taking it for 1-2 hrs she still cant walk...my mum olso can get up from bed on her own...she needs assistance...not sure this is due to her back pain or parkinson itself..

she is very depressed now with the hot (which made her suffer a lot) and the medication doesnt work that well compare to previously...actually 2 weeks ago the medicine still workable but she has an unbearable 'hot' 1-2 weeks and the medicine olso suddenly doesnt work that well..

Any solution to this? Anyone experience the above before?

Very sad to see her going thru this now...feel helpless...

Hi,

My mom used to have night sweat when she slept. I would have to change her out of her nightgown every night. She also had trouble getting moving in and out of bed. The result was that she was over medicated. She was on 4.5 mg Mirapex total a day and it was too much. Since then her dosage has been adjusted and the night sweat is gone. Please talk to her doctor about adjusting the amount she takes. Sometimes too much can be a bad thing too. I hope this helps.

thanks, i guess her symptom is due to wearing off period...coz each time after taking medicine for 2 hrs or so she will started to feel hot on her legs....anyway will bring her to another neuro soon...same my mum too need help in getting in and out of bed...

My mother is also taking Stalevo but she's on 150mg 3 times a day along with 1.50 Mirapex. Your mom is already on a pretty high dosage of Stalevo on a very frequent basis. Sounds like she needs to be on a dopamine agonist like Mirapex. Agonist helps sustain the Stalevo in her system. What I understand is she can take as much as she can swallow but in the end a lot of it gets washed out of her system by the time it reaches her brain so it's basically wasted. If she takes an agonist then it prolongs the medication therefore be more beneficial to her. It really is very frustrating I know. I feel like I go to her neurologist just so I can get her to prescribe what I ask since I am the one with my mother all the time and her doctor isn't.

i totally agreed with you...especially here sometimes when we brought her to the neuro it doesnt help much...i got most by reading thru forums and articles from internet...will be bringing her to see a neuro again . hopefully he can understand her situation better and prescribed something that can help....

one of the neuro olso ask to add in trivistal (piribedil??) ...and i find it helps her situation a bit at least (but i would like to find out abt mirapex or other that can help prolong dopamine )...example if she is taking stalevo 100 at 7.00am, she will take trivistal at 8.30am...so when her stalevo is due at 10.00am she still can walk and the 'hot' sensation is not that great...not a very successful ways but at least something till our nx appt nx wed.....she can sleep long at nite, waking up almost every hour due to her hot sensation...she is suffering and we as caregiver too...really hope to find a solution soon...tried to gv her lorazepam 1mg as sleeping aid..doesnt work well too...

Please do not give her lorazapam or any other anti-anxiety medications. They have the opposite affect. Same goes with Risperdal. There are lots of meds that interfere with the PD meds. You must ask her doctor if what he/she prescribes is ok with what she's currently taking. In the US the doctors are overworked and they don't take the time to check and they just prescribe the same 10 medications they always give out when the patients seem to have all the same symptoms. I wonder if the hot sensations in her legs is the same as restless leg syndrome which is what Mirapex has been approved for that condition.

I've never heard of Trivistal. Must not be available in the U.S.

I have used lorazepam for anxiety for many years,and it is effective for me.I take .5 mg as needed usually 1x a day.It is an addictive drug.Check withyour neuro before making any drug changes.The pharmacist is your best source for info. on drug interactions.Wish you the best.Ed

You're lucky it works for you. I gave one to my mom hoping she would sleep better through the night but instead she was pacing around her bedroom all night.

sorry i hmade a typo error in my earlier post...my mum cant sleep well due to the hot sensation...

the lorazepam was prescribed by the neuro...but my mum do not take it often...ya i would say it doesnt help...

at 1st i do thought that she has restless leg....but now i find that she has the hot sensation whole day especially after 2-21/2 hrs taking the parkinson med...at nite it will be worst as the heat goes up to her back...i really hope to get a right diagnosis for this asap...

Yes something definitely is not right if she gets hot sensation. Hopefully her doctor will know how to help. Thanks for the info on Trivistal. I'll ask my mom's doctor about it on her next visit.
