I have had PD for about three years. I am right handed. My PD affects my right side. I don't walk like I used to and my right hand has lost some coordination. I notice my left hand doing some of the things that my right hand used to do. I have also gained the ability to do things equally well with my left hand as my right hand. I play a lot of ping-pong against myself with my table in playback position. Last December I switched the paddle to my left and returned the ball. I had never held a paddle in my left hand before. This left hand return was automatic. I did not think about it. I am now as good or better with my left.

Has anybody else experienced this?

I have the same problem.  I am right handed but basically I now do everything left handed except for writing which is very sloppy right handed.   I even had to move the mouse on my computer to the left side.  I eat, drive, etc with my left hand now.

What do you do with your right hand? How long have you had PD?

I don't even try to write. It's a waste of ink and paper. Myhandwriting has always been bad, but not this bad. I always print. And sometimes even that is a waste of time. I have to go real slow.

I assume you are from Florida. Where?

I am in Ocala Florida.  I have been diagnosed with PD for about 5 years now.  I am now 41.  I still work full time but it is getting harder to do this.  I am doing okay though.  I have major shaking on my right side.  It is worse in my right arm but now going to my right leg.  At night I get the worse tremors in both legs.  I currently take artane and seligilene.  Does not help with the tremors though.  I try to make an effort to use my right hand while doing things.  Alot of times I will wear pants with pockets at work to hide my right hand. 

I also have a 7 year old daughter and have to keep going for her.  She is my whole world.

I take Artane too. Not too many of us do. I also take Azilect. Azilect and seligilene are very similar. Most of the time I have no tremors. The Aziect took care of the symptoms except tremors. It helped but not totally. Artane does the rest. Oh, I have an occasional tremor but not too much. I am 66 YO.

Have you thought about Social Security disability?

I have thought about disability but first I dont think my doctor would approve it yet because I can still do most things and second I cannot financially make it for the 6 month waiting period.  I have a 7 year old to support.  I am really praying for a very slow progression and that they find some kind of better treatment or cure before I get to where I can't function.
