my grandfather's suffering from parkinsons

my maternal grandfather has been suffering from PD for five years. now his body has moved into the advanced stages of this disease. he always needs aid for walking, frequent drooling particularly during the consumption of liquid stuffs. his limbs have turned rigid along with stiffness of the neck. he finds it hard to express facial expressions like smiling. he twitches a lot and it really hurts for the entire family to see him reacting like that. frequent urination especially during night time has affected his confidence. he has been taking syndopa for the past four years but we haven't been able to observe any noticeable improvements. i dont know how long he is going to be in this stage. all of us are praying and hoping that his situation improves.

I would wonder about re-evaluating the Parkinson's meds your grandfather is taking. I'm not familiar with 'syndopa'. I'm familiar with sinemet ... or levadopa ... but not syndopa. Are you in the US?

 

I agree that it would be best if your grandfather could see a movement disorder specialist or MDS. An MDS is a neurologist who specializes in movement disorders such as Parkinsons.

 

Everyone responds differently to different meds. I would ask his doc/neurologist/MDS about Parkinson's medication options. You could also talk with a pharmacist. They know, or have the resources to research, Parkinson's meds.
