My 87 year old grandmother diagnosed with parkinsonism was just admitted to the hospital due to inability to walk and get around on her own, some time ago she had to move to a walker to get around the home. Bless my Grandpa for being her caregiver, wearing him out but giving him a purpose to help keep her purpose. Now, yesterday she was put into a rehab place and we will see how that goes but my hopes are really, really dashed as I believe this is it for her, she will never go home again. It was a slow downhill run, my heart is just broken, the rehab center is very close to where I live, I will be spending every morning with her every single day to fill in the times when her daughter and husband won't be with her. She's troubled and it hurts, I know she just wants to go home and I don't know what else we can do, any suggestions? I think it's all I can do is be there for her, just go to her bed and hold her hand. Once you can't get around on your own it's a sad state to be in. I muscled tested her myself last night, her left leg is real strong but right leg real weak and is clearly giving her pain. She can still feed herself at the table quite well, and talk and communicate enough to help us keep her comfortable, it's just tough. The plan is to rehab and see if they can get her up and around again, but the facility she is in, I just don't know, we will see.
