well Dan Im no expert but like I said Ive done alot of reading.  There are several parkinson plus disorders which are diseases related to parkinsons disease.  All these diseases as well as parkinsons itself are referred to as parkinsonism.  MSA stands for multiple system atrophy, the disease presents itself in different ways.  One of those ways is very much the same way as regular parkinson.  The difference is msa progresses much faster and does not respond well to regular anti-parkinsons drug therapy such as sinemet, mirapex, or azilect.  Basically from what I get from reading MSA is like parkinsons on steriods.  I dont know exactly for sure if this is what I have but several things kind of hit home.  I wasnt diagnosed with parkinsons that long ago but I have had to increase my drug therapy quite a bit just to be able to function and am still continuing to increase.  Another way of distinguishing between parkinsons and msa according to movement disorder specialist is that parkinsons patients typically lose there sense of smell while msa patients dont.  My sense of smell is fine.
