Mirapex side effect: sex addiction

I am a 67 y/o retired male diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and treated with Mirapex (pramipexole) for 18 months. Sinemet was not effective. The dosage of Mirapex ER has been gradually increased to 3.75 mg per day. The Parkinson symptoms (balance, tremors, and rigidity) are under control. Hypersexuality began the first week on Mirapex and has increased in intensity with the gradual increase in daily dosage.

Has anyone had a similar experience with sexual addiction? What is or was the outcome?

Mirapex is a dopamine agonist. The most common agonists are Mirapex and Requip. Each is known for causing addictive behaviors such as sexual addiction and gambling. It's good that you recognize the issue. I have taken Requip for several years. In retrospect, I probably had some additiive behavior earlier on, but it was more along the lines of being addicted to a hobby of mine - not with regard to sex or gambling. I would say that my tendencies went away over time. I'm NOT saying yours will. I would discuss this issue with your doctor. Addictions can result in devastating behaviour that can ruin marriages and wipe out bank accounts.

My husband has been on maripax for a lot of years. I found out about a year ago he was addectid to sex not with me a wife of 37 years. We talked to the doctor and she told us it happens alot , she cut the medican down but it's still there. It's a powerful drug and now not in a good way.I love him but i hate what it had done to our lives and whats worse is there is no feeling behind it. they should tell you all of this at the start so i'm really mad
