How painful is an EMG?

I finally had my first visit with my neuro yesterday and he has scheduled a MRI w/sedation and and EMG. There is no sedation with the EMG and he says it will be "uncomfortable". Can anybody out there share their experience with me please? I'm scared but would rather be prepared than expecting less or more than there is to this test. I know it involves shocks and needles but how a

nd how many and how long ?????????? HELP!!!!

PJ,

You will experience some discomfort,but I found it far from painfull.As always fear of the unknown is always the worse part.I never felt the probes being inserted but did feel the electricity which stimulates the muscle to contract.Neither the electrcity nor the contractions were painfull to me,and I have a low tolerance for pain.Wishing you the best and let us know how you make out with the EMG,and MRI.Ed
