Happy New Year, Julie!

It's been just about a month since my husband's brachytherapy and he's doing great. Outside of the side effects from the pills he was on post-implantation and a few days with intestional issues, he's pretty much back to normal. He'll have a CT scan on Friday to make sure all the seeds are where they're supposed to be.

My husband had brackytherapy in April of 2007 and
since that time, when he feels like he has to urinate,
he better be near a bathroom. Do you know if this is from the brackytherapy and if it will eventually go
away? I reread your husband's story and I wondered what his psa is now. Was the bounce about nine months after his brachytherapy? Also, my husband's urologist
did not give him anything like viagra or the other one after his brackytherapy and when he went back in January, the doctor never even asked him about anything like that. And I think my husband was probably too embarrassed to bring it up.

My husband had some urgency at first but it did subside.  The bounce was about that time and our Brachytherapist indicated the spike was expected and perfectly normal - his PSA is now back down below zero - I think he's at 0.9 and she expects it to continue dropping.

On the follow up visit we were given the option of Viagara, Levitra or Cialis.  Viagra and Levitra pass through your system quicker, Cialis stay in the body longer - we opted to try both Viagra and Levitra and prefer the Levitra when needed - and it's not always needed so I guess we're lucky.

Hope your husband continues on a smooth path to recovery.

OK folks, for those following this up and down journey, we're on a bit of a down swing right now.  My husband's PSA is up again (1.8 - yikes) and because there was an incident of blood in his urine a couple of months back (we went to the clinic and they didn't see any cause for worry) his Urologist has booked him for a cystoscopy to check for tumour(s) in the bladder.

This is indeed another setback for both of us but I have great faith in the prayers and thoughts that have been sent our way by those posting to another thread (the one I posted in the middle of my emotional breakdown).

This post serves two purposes (1) to keep everyone posted who has been following this journey and (2) to bump this thread back to the top before it gets lost (these threads are moving fast these days).

I'll keep everyone posted and thanks, once again, for your support.

I really wouldn't worry, Julie. (I know ... easy to say.) Michael's doctors said his PSA could jump around for awhile. We've pretty much decided not to take any upward tread (presuming there is one) to heart for the first couple of years, based on everything we've read. If all other indications are that treatment was successful, I wouldn't go by the PSA bounce as it's really not a reliable indicator for brachytherapy patients until further on down the road.

I'm going to bump this back to the top with a small update.  The Urologist was concerned with blood in my husband's urine so ordered a cystoscopy - that was done and the bladder appears clean but there's something on the kidney which was examined by CAT scan yesterday - results are expected next week - I'll keep everyone posted once we get those.

Update!

Well folks we have reason to celebrate.  Although there is still some concern about his rising PSA, the CAT scan came back with a report of "no imminent organ concerns" or as I like to put it, "all clear".  Apparently the cystoscopy is sensitive to everything (including shadows) and the CAT scan is the definitive test and the CAT came back (no pun intended) with a good report. 

Thanks to all of you keeping us in your thoughts - now maybe, just maybe I can catch up on some much needed sleep.

Hi JustJulie,

I wonder if you'd mind answering a couple of questions for me?  What kind of seeds did you husband have? Where in the prostate WAS his cancer, left margin, right margin, middle etc.? Did he have EBR with it as well? PSA level and Gleason score when first detected?

We met today with the radiologist. My husband will have an MRI and an Ultrasound done on 6/16 and 6/17. After that he has to decide on what to do.  After speaking with both the surgeon, urologist and the radiologist it appears seeds would be the better option. Thanks for your help.
