Successful Da Vinci

Hi Everyone, thank you for all your support

No difficulties, or complications with my Da Vinci ((25 Feb)) at INOVA Fairfax Hosp, Dr Simon Chung of Dominin Urology in VA

Pre-OP to Surgery approx 7am, into Post-OP at Noon, into a room by 5pm.

Both Nerves spared

Must say learning to flush a catheter was a joy haha
Will conintue to monitor board, readily available to answer anyones questions

Currently starting to build a relationship with my day and night bag and flip a coin to see who does the dirty work, me or my wife

Hi Bob. Welcome to the other side. Don't overdo it but walk as much as you can. Hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Hello Bob,

Glad to hear that everything went well. Now you just need to heal, and build up your strength. Eat lots of protein your body needs it. Don't try lifting anything heavier than a 1/2 gal. of milk for at least 4-5 months. This may sound overly cautious, but it's important not to strain those abdominal muscles.

I hope your recovery goes well, please keep us posted.

Hi Bob,
Congrats on the surgery.  Sounds like you're doing well.  I used the big bag almost all of the time.  The leg bag was a bit cumbersome.  I'm in the minority, though.  I just strapped the bigger bag with some velcro on the calf and wore sweats.  I was able to walk well and never had the urge to pee, just empty once in a while.  Distant memory for me, but I have blocked out the removal process.  . 

I have prayers I say every night, Bob, and I'll pray for a smooth recovery and a great result.  Take it easy and just get well.

As Im sure youre read many times on here, and its easy for us to say, but afterwards youre agree its a piece of cake.  Just have to be careful and remember everyone is different

As long as you have a good surgical team and ask questions, follow post op instructions, at least in my case, there is no pain, just obvious soreness and humilitary wearing a sidekick bag for a week or so

ONLY regret I had was I didnt get to meet R2D2, he was hiding behind the door I guess til they put me out

Congratulations, Bob.  Welcome to the other side of surgery.  I had mine Feb 4 and returned to work this week.  I know the catheter is a pain but it is doing vital work.  It was a relief to get mine out after 10 days.  The first time I wore the small bag was when I went to the surgeon's office to have the catheter removed.  I just found it easier to use the big bag and hide it with a coat or in my pants.  Take it easy for these next few weeks - you are on your way!  David
