catheter out this morning (5/8/08)

 Got the catheter out this morning and will not see the doctor agin for 30 days. Was able to start and stop my stream but since then its been drip drip drip. I guess from what I've learned from you guys on the board it just time and exercise from here out. I was surprised the Dr paid little attention to the driping and said things would be fine.  Boy, from some of the problems I've seen on the board I hope so..Thanks to all for you encourgement and help.

Congrats on freedom day! Its great news that you can start and stop your stream. Do it several times when you pee and you will discover the muscles that you need to exercise with Kegels. Walk, do Kegels and remember to squeeze before you sneeze...

Thank's for the encouragement guys I've started walking and my Dr has given some pelvic floor exercises, are these kegels? Biker thanks for the squeezing on sneezing that'l help.

I'm about a week and a couple days post catheter removal and I'm doing pretty good. I haven't seen any leaking since and have not been using any pads but this morning after bending over to pickup something on the floor I noticed a few drops. I wiped it off and bend down again mimic the first time but this time I tried to hold in the urine and it worked. I'm not sure what I did different but I'm very lucky to be this far with minimum leaking (knock on wood). I've been walking a lot since the day of surgery and some told me that helps the leaking. I'm not a doctor but whatever I'm doing its working. Hope my first PSA result is negative also.

Hi Wally,
I'll bet you don't miss "Mr. Hang" as we refer to it on this forum. I had complications and had the drain tube and catheter for over two weeks. Daily walks and Kegels did the trick for me. I am three months out and able to walk without leaking. Sounds like you are coming along just fine. Be patient. As my Urologist said, measure your progress in weeks, not days. It sure helped me get through it.

I kinda got attached to my catheter and enjoyed a full night's sleep without having to get up to make my bladder gladder.

You'll be continent before you know it.  In the meantime, keep up your exercises.  I didn't do many Kegels, and still ended up continent well before I'd gone thru a Costco-size box of Depends.

Wally, the tendency when leaking is to not drink as much fluid . . . be sure you are taking in enough fluid and see if this improves the odor.

As for the leaking, 3 weeks is still early and if you are seeing some improvement "at times" you are going in the right direction. Good luck.

i had the robitic surgery on may 9 and had the catheter removed last friday (may 23).  i came home and took a 30 minute nap and woke up and my pads were completed soaked.  i am getting up in the night when i can't sleep and go ahead and go to the bathroom.  i have leakage and don't even know it.  i am told patience, patience, patience.  i am starting he kegel's again and hopefully that will help.

also, when have people gone back to work after robotic surgery?  some say 2 weeks and some say lots longer?

age 48

psa went from 2.6 to 3.5

biopsy gleason 3+4

robobic surgery 5/9 (what a relieve - the wait took its toll on me)

still waiting on pathology reports but doctor seems to think surgery went well

A suggestion is to ask the pharmacy if they have trial sizes available… this will allow you to try them without having to buy the whole pack!  You don’t get unless you ask and the answer will be yes/maybe/no….  worth asking!  My uncle was given 3 pair of the underwear to try.... when he had his cystoscopy...

Well I'm now into the 8th week since Mr Hang was removed   and am starting to show some progress on the dripping.  If i'm sitting or lying down nothing but as soon as I get up the dripping starts particularly when I'm doing something strenuous then it squirts out. Also I've noticed my stream is slowing down and it's harder to urinate, is that normal?

i am almost 5 weeks out  of surgery and went back to work at 3 weeks 8 hour days,i too still have a dripping problem ,will use a pad a day im sure im on the right road as i am dry at night all night we will see and good luck to all of my brothers out there dealing  with  the continence crap

Havn't been too active on the forum and thought it was time to check in.  I'm still having a little problem with the dripping but am now down to one slim Tena pad a day.  Still have problems when I cough, get up etc. Have not been to good with the kegels and wonder if that's caused my drying up to take longer.
