Experiences with recovering from ED?

I am curious and would like to find out from others who have experienced the correction of ED following prostatectomy. Did you "gradually" recover function over a period of weeks or months once partial spontaneous activity started, or was it more a short term recovery? I am beginning to have some, 60 to 70% erections with no meds or injections, not suitable for activity but still something. I am curious if the rest of my journey is a time issue or not. Any help or info would be appreciated. I go tomorrow for my 9 month PSA, got my fingers crossed!!!

Hey lungman,

I had Da Vinci almost three years ago and I was fully sexually functional within three weeks after the surgery, I was 46 at the time.  I know from what I read here that I was very fortunate.  I also recently finished nine weeks of radiation therapy on March 6th 2008 and as of this writing I am still doing okay sexually though I feel like the radiation did take some of the wind out of my sails but so far not a big deal.

I guess my message here is don't give up and continue to work at it you should get some good results.  Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, I hope you continue to have those low PSA's following RadTx. I am noticing some improvement as noted, I appreciate your encouragement.

It is a gradual process that takes up to 2 years. So, while it may plateau, don't give up hope. It also seems (from what I've read) to improve in fits and spurts. poor choice of words, but you know what I mean.

I am nearing the two year mark, and am maybe at 50% with significant manual encouragement, as far as erections go. Not sure I'll see much better, but there has been some noticeable progress of late. But, I'm using injections now for best performance.

Unfortunately we all heal differently. Some never have a problem with ED from day one, and some have to work for a while to get it back. I have seen posts that are from guys that have gone 2 years.... and longer who got it back. Nerves take time to heal. But, you need to keep working things. Nothing will ever be completely the same as it was before. It is a fact that we all have to deal with. This is not a club that I am really happy to be a part of, but I am happy that all my PSA checks have been 0.

  Hey Rip...I was wondering where you had your surgery performed? I noticed you had the Bladder sling incorparated as part of your surgery. My surgeon is doing the same thing.....I just wondered if Dr. John Scott happened to be your Doc??   I'm just a few miles north of Indy.         Sorry didn't intend to hijack the thread...thanks

My guy was Hollensbe....but Hollensbe and Scott work as a team, so you might say we had the same surgeons. I have turned on my e-mail. I live on the northwest side of Indy.
