My husband had 2 slings inserted without success. His Urologist suggests they try either Coaptite injections or Collagen injections. If anyone has had these injections, would you please inform us how you got along and how you feel, etc. He is sick of operations, who can blame him. Also, did you have this done in the office or hospital?

Very appreciate of any replys.

I am sure KW will respond when he gets off vacation, but he has had several calagen injections and a male sling and then another injection or maybe two with litle success.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. 

I too am one of the continuing incontinent guys and understand the frustrations.  When KW gets home, he says he will begin the road to Artificial Urinary Sphincter, the only seeming cure for the continuing problem.  I am scheduled for one (AUS) in July now and also an IPP.  I am going to post a new thread for the benefit of those who live in the DFW area about an up-coming seminar discussing these devices.

How is your general health? His is good. He is an excerciser and also a senior citizen.
I haven't hear of Artifical Urinary Sphincter,maybe my husband has.
I will watch for any thing about this procedure and thanks plus good thoughts and the best of luck (whatever that is)

My health is, I think, good now. Thanks to an observant surgeon who was about to install an AUS and IPP, my surgery was delayed because of a past coronary event.  Further testing revealed three blockages which needed stents.  They are in place and I now hope to proceed with the surgery soon. 

You can Googal "Artificial Urinary Sphincter" and get all the info you need, and probably a lot more.  It is a device which is surgically installed which acts in the place of one's removed prostate sphincter.  Simply put, it gives back control of one's urination to those who never regain the control after prostate surgery.  The draw back is that... it is surgery and it is a mechanical device.  A male sling cannot give that kind of help to one with severe incontinence.

Hello again and the very best of luck to you. Have you had sling procedure? You don't need to telll me of course, it is a very personal thing. My husband has had two and it looks as though neither is successful. He does urinate on his own
several times a day and a couple times at night. He does not leak when he coughs or sneezes. Most days he uses 3-4 pads but occasionaly, he used only two. It's bad though, I'm afraid.
It happens he does know about artificial Unrinary Sphincter - and I have tried to find information on the internet. He seems reluctant to have that done, and one can't blame him either,
his surgery was very hard, (as are many)and so was the last sling surgery.
The Uroligist said that his bladder was small. What the heck does that mean? What is nerve sparing surgery?

Gene - my husband had open heart surgery when he was 51.  He had one stent afterward.  He has exercised in a class for almost 20 years.  He's in very good shape, but that doesn't alway mean anything!This is a great board, sorry I didn't find it before.

No I have not had a male sling and things are usually not too personal on this forum, since we are annonymous posters, usually.

I sense your husband does have some control, and that is good.  I also assume he practiced keagals.  It would help if you went to the control panel and filled out a profile. That will enable us to know a bit more about you and him.

Deanna, I had two collagen injections, the AdVance male sling, then two more collagen injections. Unfortunately neither has given me any long term relief.
The injection arent all that bad. If he is only leaking a little it might be worth a try! I do not like the idea of having the AUS done at 45 years old. But it looks like my only option at this point.
