Just curious how many hee have Pc in their family

It most definitely runs in families - you are twice as likely to get Pca if your Dad had it and three times as likely if brothers have had it.  Both of my brothers had it - didn't know my Dad, but would assume since all three of the boys had it he probably did too.  Family history is one of the "red flags".

Both my father and my grandfather have/had pc.

Both Ron's father and grandfather had PC....one of his first cousins has it as well.

There is little evidence of PCa in our families however, since Paul has had 2 male hormone cancers we will continue to encourage our son to take precautions throughout his life. The other male hormone cancer, male breast cancer, is also on our watchful list.

I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago at age 54 and my brother was just diagnosed 6 weeks ago at age 58.

No known hx of PCa in my family, uncle had BPH which was severe enough to require prostatectomy but was not cancerous.

My father died of metasticized pca at 73. I didn't start checking my PSA's until 1995 when I was about 58 and as you see below it started out fairly low but has now rapidly jumped.

I've waited, for some inexplicable reason. until just recently to get treated but I'm told it's still contained. If it is I'm darned lucky I think.

As far as I know I am the only one in my family with a verified case of PCa. Five uncles on father's side. No cancer. Four uncles on mother's side one died of bone cancer. Knowing what I know now I suspect that it started as PCa. This was around 1967. From diagnosis to death was 90 days for my uncle. He was in his early to mid 60's. He just sort of gave up or at least that is how it seemed to me as a teenager. He was a favorite uncle and missed dearly.
Cause of death for the remaining members of the family including parents, aunts, grand parents, and brother have all been heart attack and a couple of strokes. I have done a great deal aimed at preserving my heart health so the PCa sort of snuck up on me.

Jeff's father had PCa, surgery at Johns Hopkins in the late 80s when he was in his 60s, died at the age of 82 in his sleep. he was diagnosed with bone cancer with a PSA over 400 at that time, but said he never felt any symptoms. My father had PCa and surgery about 15 years ago. he is now 80 and cancer free. We've told our 2 sons that they should be vigilant about this disease because their chances are very good of getting it. hopefully in 20 years there will be a cure. :)

What I'm curious about is why are younger men being diagnosed? is it because they are being tested sooner? are they getting PCa at a younger age? are there any studies out there about this?

My dad had prostate cancer and had his prostate removed around age 74. He also had diabetes.

My dad had PCa in his mid-sixties, that was almost 13 years ago. He had a RP and radiation follow up and has been clean since then.

My 46 year old brother has a PSA of 2.0 and my 42 year old brother 1.1. Both are being checked every 6 months and have changed their diets etc.
