Although it is hard at this point to relax and wait for test results, try to find something that will keep your mind and body active and distracted as much as you can.

Hang in there KC.  The reason you are anxious is because you know what is happening.  Believe it, or not, you will eventually prevail.  One way, or the other.  Please let us know the results.

You will have them from me.  I'll try to remember you all day Monday.  Keep up hope and don't get too premature on the results....

You will not have much recovery from the biopsy but the waiting for the results does produce anxiety, I remember those days of waiting. Try as you may to go on with normal life, work, play, laugh, etc. When the news comes hopefully you will be able to celebrate, and if you need comfort or just someone to talk to I am betting anyone on this forum would gladly listen. If you ever feel the need please email me and we can chat.

i wish i could give you my ignorance when i went for my biopsy. with a 2% chance of having cancer, i barely gave it a second thought. and i didn't find HW until after i got my diagnosis.

take comfort in knowing you are doing what you can and either way, you are on top of the situation. knowledge is power and gives you the best chance of survival if they find cancer. if not, it will be a day to celebrate.

keep us posted since now you are in all our thoughts.

The jitters are very understandable.  You are no wimp.

I will certainly keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a quick, uneventful procedure and a speedy recovery from the biopsy symptoms.

The good news, is that it'll be over very quickly and you'll physically feel much better the next day.

Please check in with your thoughts and concerns afterwards, since you have most people here who have gone throught the same thing, either themselves or with a loved one.  We'll be glad to answer questions and try to provide some comfort.

Well I made it through the biopsy. Dr. Moran took 42 samples. WOW!

I've never been a patient in a hospital before so this was new to me. I've seen people in the hospital but I was never hooked up to IV before and never had any kind of procedure. I guess I'm "lucky" that I have sleep APNEA. The oxygen mask did not make me freak out. I can imagine one might if they weren't used to their face being covered.

The Doctor was fantastic. He saw I was having high anxiety so they hit me right away with "a little something" so it made me feel less anxious, but not dopey. My wife was there and wished me well and off I went. All I can remember of the OR was getting on the operating table, the oxygen mask and a burning feeling in my hand where the IV was. Next thing I know I'm in recovery and a little sore. Since I was under a general, no local was used and I was not in severe pain at all. I'd rank it about a 3.

I peed a good amount of red urine (go figure) and they let me go home. I've been convalescing since then.

The doctor told my wife that a few samples had blood in them so that may indicate inflammation too. Now for the waiting... I've got other things going on right now so I'm distracted enough. I hope the results come in fast.

Almost forgot to mention the meds.  Cipro for the antibiotic and Methylpred for anti-inflamation.  Of course the Doctor's office was superb.  Followed up with me and will tack me for a while.

My doctor, Dr. Brian J. Moran has a published paper that goes into great detail at www.prostateimplant.com/pdf/news/2.pdf

 

Briefly, you are under general anesthesia for this option and the prostate is divided into 8 quadrants (4 up and 4 down) for needle samples through the perineum instead of through the rectum.  The doctor said the prostate pretty well rests on the perineum so they get "better angles" for getting exact location samples.  In addition, since the procedure does not pierce your rectum, there is much less chance for infection.

 

On the average .44 samples per gram of volume are taken.  My prostate is 40 grams and he needed to take 42 samples to get the proper desity of tissues.  This gives the pathologist a lot more to look at and since it is mapped so closely a better location of the cancer can be determined.

 

This procedure is sometimes used after the usual 12 sample biopsy does not find the cancer and PSA keeps rising.  Since my father had PCa, the doctor recommended that I do the more intensive test.  As always get good information and follow your doctor's advice, but if you ask me this is much more comprehensive

These saturation biopsies show you how poor the standard biopsies are in actually locating the tumor. But the latter are really just designed to see if they can detect any malignancy to later remove/radiate..etc the entire gland. Mine was to see if I qualified for TFT(Targeted Focal treatment). What possible treatment is this being done for? Sorry if you have stated that before, I've been out of the loop for a couple of months here.





If we find anything, brachytherapy seems the way to go. Worked great for Dad and he had very advanced cancer. I still have to get a diagnosis before I can decide... the wait goes on.

Let's see what your biopsy indicates. You may possibly want to consider what I had done, or just look into it if you qualify by your multi-needle biopsy. It's like a lumpectomy. Or in other words I still have my prostate with the tumor destroyed by freezing. It's an ongoing clinical research study. But only available at this time in I believe three cities. I'll be reposting all the links to it in the near future. I'm kind of waiting for my first quarterly PSA test after TFT which I now have scheduled for 7/30. Stay tuned, one can never have enough treatment options..

I agree on never too many options.  I'm interested in the therapy you underwent.  Post the links soon so I can read about it before I have to decide.  I'm in Chicagoland so I hope that's one of the 3 cities.

 

Unfortunatley it's not. The research is going on here in Denver. And one guy said it was available in Florida and I believe maybe around New Orleans. Here's just a quick link to my Urologist site about it.
