Hey gang,

  I had my RRP on September 10 and the cathater removed on Sep 22.  I am one week out from having it removed and I am still bleeding.  Sometimes when I urinate I see blood and just about every time I have a bowel movement there is blood.  I'm hoping that the current bleeding is from the cathater.  The blood is red and not the dark red I experienced moments after the cathater was removed (old surgery blood I guess).  I've had two CT scans since surgery but they don't show the area bleeding. 

How much longer can I expect bleeding to occur?  I'm still sticking to as bland a diet as I can along with no caffine, no alcohol and no carbination (no soft drinks).

Our surgery date was the same, as was the date of our catheter removal.  Coincidence.  Though I'm not seeing traces of blood in my stool(s) I do, from time to time, still have it in my urine.  My doctors PA telephoned me Friday to see how I'm doing and I mentioned the occassional blood and she said not to worry - if it was intermittent - and she described it as "old blood."  My first post-op exam by the Urologist/Surgeon will be next Monday and if I still see blood this week I'll mention it to him to see what he says.  If I were any more concerned about it I'd telephone my Urologist to let him know what's going on - and maybe you will want to do the same.  I'm eating pretty much what I want now and I drink several cans of Diet Pepsi daily.  No alcohol yet, though.  The Urologist has never mentioned undergoing a CT.

hi pal, im a little before you but i had this blood issue too. ck out my posts. when the cath was in and i sat down on the bowel i was a blood firework. when the cath came out about a week later i woke up the blood was gone and has been ever since
every time i called the doc he said dont worry it does not concern me and it will go away im hoping your hrs away from it stopping

Bleeding in urine is very common up to eight weeks after surgery. I overdid it at three weeks and it was a bloody mess for five days. clots continued for quite a long time. Don't worry. Your doctor says don't worry, so don't. I was told that the only time to worry was when you could NOT urinate at all. they fully expect residual bleeding for some weeks after surgery. when you realize that they rebuilt a new neck for your bladder and the reconstruction that went on, it's no wonder you're bleeding. It's perfectly normal.
