Well, today the AUS (artificial Sphincter) was activated for Pete. You can"t believe how happy and thrilled he is that it really does work! I have to thank Gene, Berb, and KW for their wonderful posts and the information that we learned from them....Thanks Guys! Pete has been totally wet for two years....one year before that with the catheter in, and several cystocopys and a fistula operation....all because of the radiation damage, and the subsequent salvage surgery. He went through literally thousands of pads and diapers.... We had one doctor tell us last year to just go ahead and get a bag....but thanks to this site, we learned about the AUS... Anyone that is suffering from incontinence should really be aware of how great the AUS is... I don't think many people know about it.. .It will be a celebration tonight with several glasses of vino!!! Diane yeah

That's really great Divo, and quite remarkable that it works so well, given Peter's history.  Congratulations on perservering.

Divo, WELCOME to the 800 Club!!!!!!  I am so glad it is working well for you also.  I know at first Pete will still be nervous about leaking.  After dealing with it as long as WE have it is a hard habit to break.  I am at three weeks post activation and I am just now getting where I do not worry about "leaking out" but I do wear a light womens panty liner.  You two will be able to enjoy getting on with your live without carrying around a supply of pads, spare cloths and always worrying about where you can find bathrooms.  Now comes the fun part of re-learning how to pee agian.  A couple of times I have actually forgot to "push the button" before trying to go.....heheheh  I wish you well with your AUS.

Thanks KW....It has only been one day for Pete....He was up five times last night, and he seems to have a little squirting at the beginning, but I think it will take a few days for him to get used to it. He may need to talk to you about getting used to it. May he? Thanks very much. It hs been a long road....Diane

Wonderful!

As time goes on Pete will learn a little more about what he can and cannot do.  Like the rest of us, he probably will have to wear a little emergency panti-liner.  KW says he's about 95% dry.  I suppose that's about right for me too since a few little drips per day happen and, depending how I sit, sometimes a little squirt will happen.  It's nothing that a little liner cannot contain.  Happy Days are here again!

Thanks so much Gene and Kw.. It is a new day here....I hope it works out as well for Pete as for you....Today, there were a few problems, and some leaking...I dont know what that is about....we called , and the nurse said that it takes a few days to get used to it....Ill keep you informed, and thank you for the offer of talking with Pete. ...I think that may help.... Diane
