Pain with erections

Hi Everyone,

Question:  My husband had surgery on November 13th.  He started Cialis yesterday and woke up this morning with his first morning erection.    He's had 2 semi-erections prior to this, my question is, should the erections be painful.  I know the urethra is still healing, but he is saying the whole penis hurts.  Has anyone experienced this before.  I'm fearful having erections so early can do some harm.  Thanks for whatever advice you can give.

Diagnosed:  8/24/08, age-47

Father died of prostate cancer at age 72

PSA 1.5 early 2007, 4.5 mid 2008, all remedies tried & reduced to only 3.2, uh oh.

Biop - 2 positives of 20 samples

Gleason - 3+3

RRP - 11/13/08 via Da Vinci by Dr. David Samadi, Mt. Sinai Hosp. NY

Post op biopsy - 75% of samples positive for cancer, Post op Gleason 3+4

some lymph Nodes tested, all negative

all nerves spared - I'm told

Catheter in for 1 week, using 1 pad a day. 

 

Your husband's doctor wanted him to try having erections barely 2 weeks after surgery? Ouch. Is that a normal approach? My open surgery was just 16 days ago now, and there is no part of me that would even want to think about having an erection or even a sexual thought if I could. I am not complaining or critisising, but your post kind of shocked me, still laying here in pain.

Good luck on his fast progress, and I hope they got all the PC out of him.

Thank you all for responding. I figured the pain would be normal being so soon after surgery.

Purgatory to clear things up, he wasn't given Cialis to promote erections, he was given Cialis to get the blood flowing to the penis. The nurse told me if he gets an erection to have him think bad thoughts so it goes down, LOL! The purpose for the erection isn't for intercourse, he was ordered not to have sex for 4 weeks, but more therapeutic so when the time comes hopefully he'll be able to achieve and sustain an erection.

Hi skapod, I also had those early erections, (thank goodness), and the first was with the catheter still in. Now that really did hurt. After it was removed I did have some pain in my penis especially at the base. There is a lot of trauma down there. As long as you see no bleeding or swelling it should be okay. I did continue to have as many erections as I could but without allowing orgasms. ( I believe there is a torture term for this) My wife joked with me that this was her revenge for all those times I made her angry. LOL. My doctor said to avoid full blown sex for 4 weeks because the violent contractions of orgasm could cause damage. He did encourage the erections to help blood flow to my penis.

By all means listen to your doctor. I did cheat and had partial erections daily for blood flow. I avoided any real stressing of the stitches. I was just so darn happy I could get any kind of erection. It sounds like your man will be doing fine !!! Best of luck to you both.
