Just a note of true encouragement. My sister was diagnosed with cancer 10 years ago. The extinct of her cancer in lymp nodes etc. was very distressing. Her husband is a doctor and he basically told the family that she would not make it a year. She underwent chemo and nearly died from the chemo, but made it through. Since that time she has led an amazing cancer free life. No one knows what lies ahead, but I wanted you to know some folks have been cured. My sister is a tough ole gal, and I know you are made of the same stuff. You hang in there!

By the way, I am a biker also - nothing more enjoyable than riding (well almost nothing) the back roads. Keep your chin up!

PSA: 5.1
T1C clinical diagnosis, Needle biopsy - 10 cores, Gleason 7 = 3+4 in 1 core (40%), 7 cores Gleason 6 = 3+3 ranging from 5% to 12%
All scans negative
Lupron administered 4/9/2008 for 4 months (with idea I would undergo external beam radiation followed by seed implants - then I changed my mind).
Robotic DiVinci surgery - Dr. Fagin (Austin) May 19th
Post operative - pathology
pT2c NX MX
Gleason 3+4
Margins - negative
Extraprostatic extension - negative
seminal vesicle invasion - uninvolved
1st Post PSA <.04
2nd Post PSA <.1 10/30/2008

I'm in lung cancer remission!!!! WoooHooo!!!  Thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes.  You pulled me through another one.

Now I'll have scans every three months for two years. I updated Jim's Space with some details..

Lets get well together...

Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, early detection + aggresive treatment = Biker 2, cancer 0. MaryLu and I still can't believe its over. Waking up in the morning is a joy again...

Jim, just read your great news and could not be happier. I know you have really been strong to have gotten through. Your attitude is remarkable, I think we should nominate you for "Positive Attitude of the Year", you have been and will continue to be a role model for me and everyone here. Thanks for sharing with us and allowing us to be there with you, not in person, but in spirit.

Thanks Randy for you help and encouragement. Your expertise and your posts were great.

MaryLu and I are still on cloud 9 over the good scan report. But even though the statistics for lung cancer are much worse than those for prostate cancer, I have to say that I sweated out my first PSA test more than I did this scan. Its a terribel thing to have to "get used to having cancer" but this is kind of what hapened.

My own experience with being told "you have cancer" was the same both times. For 4 days or so I was scared silly that I was going to die. Then I thought that idea through and came to grips with the concept to the point where I could accept that end if it came about. The second time was much easier than the first in that I found peace much sooner. After that it was a matter of choosing treatment and getting on with life one day at a time. When fear and doubt would come, I would talk to MaryLu about it, we would hug and cry sometimes but the moment would pass. I believe that being open about our feelings was a great help during the hard times. Also this forum and the lung cancer forum were great for finding encouragement. It seems that when I could contribute to helping others helped me get through my own bad times.

Thank all of you wonderful people for you support, prayers, words of encouragement and good wishes.

We can all get well together...
