Dry orgasms....I must have missed something......

I must have missed the part about dry orgasms!. I honestly had no idea that I would not shoot a load after this was over. Does the dry orgasm happen in all types of surgery ( I had Davinci) or is it just the type of surgery that I had? I can't even get an erection yet, but I gotta tell you, I feel kind of like I'm going to be missing something with the dry orgasm thing.

Sorry Sam when they remove/destroy the prostate in any treatment you end up with dry orgasms. In fact I may be the only person here after treatment who has wet orgasms. I had focal point cryosurgery where only a small part of the prostate is destroyed(frozen by ice balls). That said I still have some ED problems that are being quickly corrected by the blue pill. As my surgeon said the nerves after are in shock and you need a kick start. It should be sop IMO to inform all of you going through radical treatments of dry orgasms afterward.

I think they tie off the seminal vessels during surgery. I'm no Dr. but if I'm not mistaken, they supply the semen to the prostate. I'm sure there are a lot of folks here who will provide you with similar information. I'm surprised that your Uro didn't tell you that prior to surgery. Well your alive and cancer free. I am getting used to the dry orgasms. Actually sex is better after 11 months.

To be fair, the doc might have told me but I was so nervous about the PC itself, I was not all there mentally, anyway I did hear you say that the sex is better, now that's encouraging to hear. I'll let you know just as soon as I get that first erection! Am I hearing you right, Bootheel, it took 11 months to get it back?

Actually I'm still not there without the use of a pump, viagra and bimix injections.  It is just starting to show some response naturally.  Be patient, we are all different with ED issues..

I think you'll find that the prostate produces the seminal fluid while the seminal vessels are like a mixing chamber for the fluid, sperm produced by the testes and and a couple of other minute additives. Thus no prostate=no seminal fluid (although a couple of other glands can supply a minute fluid quantity)

Radical prostatectomy of any kind removes the prostate, the seminal vesicles, part of the urethra, and in many cases pieces or all of the nerve bundles and other tissues or nodes. The Vas Deferans are tied as well. Sorry you found out after, but, you have been bypassed in the reproduction department. Sterile, dry, and full control is your best results. In almost all cases, any secretion during sex is urine.

it is my understanding that because the testes are not affected by prostatectomy and are still producing sperm it is still possible to retrieve viable little fellas from the tied off Vas Deferans and/or testes themselves, whereby they can be used in artificial insemination.................can you confirm if this is so?

I can confirm this is so (but not by first-hand experience). The testes still produce all of the normal harmones which you get via the blood vessels to them. They produce sperm, but these guys have nowhere to go as the Vas Deferens is tied off, so they just get reabsorbed. I think they can be retrieved by a needle procedure of some sort if you want to try artificial insemination for conception.

I think I was dreading the dry orgasms as much as anything. In the long run, even tho it is different, I think I actually like it better! tongue   No mess, no clean up. There is a positive side to most of these things that seem like downers.

It is possible to extract sperm from the testes but we are talking about a very experimental and very expensive process. Not sure on Aussie terms, but not covered easily in US terms. Outside of sperm banking here, there are no advertised hypes of reproduction in the US after RP. One thing for sure ~ the testes are shooting into a blank tube after surgery for prostate removal. The "new" main tube goes from the tip of the penis to the bladder! There is no entry point for sperm.  There is some hope in artificial insemination but it is very expensive and very high risk.  That said, we have considered it.

My TURP also ensured that I joined the dry brigade as well. But for me whilst a little weird initially, it has resulted in a substantial increase during the nice pleasurable phase. But learning to fake it, does require some advanced tuition, LOL.

Dry orgasms are the rule of thumb following prostatectomy, and I hope your MD mentioned this to you, it shouldn't be a "suprise" due to him. However, dry sure beats the "urine" orgasm, which is disheartening for those who suffer from it. Mine are dry, but at least they are there, and seem to be improving as time passes.

Chas -- have you tried pulling a big kegel at the moment of orgasm? I ejaculated a little urine on a few occasions at first, and a kegel stopped that for me. The only sphincter we have left is accustomed to opening for orgasms, and post-surgery it needs to be retrained -- my theory anyway. :-)
