PSA Reading...

Just got back my third (and one year out) PSA.

The nurse relayed that it was "0.01" instead of "less than 0.01" as in the pat three tests.

Should I be concerned, or is that typical, and the infamous ultra-sensitive test anxiety?

To resurrect an old political word from Florida elections past, a PSA of 0.01 is nothing but 'chad'.  Enjoy the holidays and don't break a sweat over your PSA results...Tim

I have an appointment this week with my surgeon to discuss the implications. I assume he'll order another one immediately to see if it was just background noise. I did read that with people having the RRP (as opposed to the traditional "open"), it is fairly common for "some benign" tissue to be left behind, which of course will generate PSA. I also read several testimonies of people having fluctuating readings over time with the 0.01 sensitivity testing for a myriad of reasons. My doctor's nurse said that the labs actually accidentally leave the < off the results sometimes not knowing the ensuing anxiety created.

I had my 3-month post-op visit with my Urologist/Surgeon, including my second post-op PSA test.  The first post-op test showed 0.0 as did the second - so all seems well and I'm assuming it will be into the future.  I asked the Urologist about the results, and if they showed 0.001, 0.01, etc.  He told me that Northwestern University (which runs the hospital in Chicago and where I had the da Vinci procedure performed) does not report results beyond tenths, because, he said, such testing is statistically insignificant.
