This is data I compiled years ago now, but could serve as a comparitive basis as to costs here in USA and abroad in US-dollars. Lupron, Zoladex, Casodex, Proscar were ones I have some data on, not comprehensive and maybe not worth the cyber paper herein I am writting it on. But just so people understand some of this is marketing.
Lupron- 3.75 (1-mo. liquid injection usually given in rear end area) :
USA- $537
Italy- 255
Canada- 348
(I believe my Lupron injection the 4-mo. version back in 2003-4 was around $1800+)
Zoladex- 3.6 (1-mo. inserted pellet like item, to your stomach area, will leave black n blue marks on your skin for awhile)
Italy- $265
Europe- $244
(my zoladex injection was 4 mo. version and was billed at $1300 back in 2002)
Cadodex- 50 mg Canada (30)- $219
50 mg Canada (90)- 607
150 mg Italy (28)- 774 (considered hi-dose treatment)
50 mg Argentina (28)- 173
50 mg Italy (28)- 269
50 mg UK (90)- 718
50 mg New Zealand (90)- 456
50 mg Europe (28)- 260
50 mg USA (did not have data my s.w.a.g est. would have been $330 in 2002)
Proscar-
5 mg USA- (30)- $90
5 mg New Zealand- (30) - 121
5 mg Italy-(15)- 34
5 mg Argentina-(30) - 54
5 mg Europe- (28)- 81
5 mg Canada- (60)- 121
*(__) is the number of pills and/or days of drug available)
The other number at the end of each is the price in USA-dollars.
Fyi- in 2002 the average onco-doc in the USA made $310,371 according to surverys by a Denver based Medical Group (Mgt. Assoc.), Dr. Siegel of Oncology Assoc. admitted to there being 'fat' in the system i.e. profits.
It appears that in my own case the ADT3 protocol was costing towards $10-13,000 per year. Very costly and luckily insurance covered most all of it. Still this is expensive stuff and perhaps to save some money people would buy in Canada or elsewhere.
The slogan just say no to drugs, does not apply to PCa patients we may have to take them, maybe we can lobby to say no as to high marketing prices.
