It starts tomorrow...and a question about Casodex.

I don't feel alone as I'm thinking about starting hormone therapy tomorrow. You're all with me. The urologist is squeezing me in between "procedures" because I insisted on tomorrow. I've made my decision and I don't want to wait any longer. Should I also insist that he start with Casodex? Is Lupron and Casodex started simultaneously considered standard or do most doctors start the Casodex first? Duke says that the flare doesn't appear for long enough to give the Casodex time to start working if they are started together.

Mike, I can't answer your questions about the hormones of course, but I can tell you one thing, I am with you all the way. My thoughts will be with you, and I respect the decisions that you have come too. I think you will find that everyone here, down to the last man, will be fighting for your sucess with you, all the way.

Thanks Tim and David. You're great. Notice my new signature. Duke reduced the 5+5 core to a 4+5 and all of the 5+4's to 4+5's. Boy am I grasping at straws :-)
but 4+5 looks so much better...to me.

Hi Mike,

I started the Casodex two weeks prior to the first Lupron shot. I continued taking the Caosdex for two weeks after the Lupron shot. I expect that will be the case with you as well. You did not say if you are having radiation or not but that will start about 8 weeks after the first Lupron shot. This give the Lupron time to work on shrinking the tumor and prostate to make the target a bit smaller.

You should take Casodex 7 days before you take Lupron to avoid flare.

Thanks Don. The radiation oncology people at Duke say that there is a very large window after hormone therapy begins to start radiation. I think my local doctor said eight weeks. Continued luck to you too.

If Casodex is not covered by your insurance company, then you might like to consider the generic equivalent at www.alldaychemist.com. Seemed to work OK for me.

If you click on a members name, you can see how long it has been since they were last logged in. Taiping was last logged-in during May of 2010.

Some of these older threads may not get you the response you need. It would be better to post a new thread, titled so that he will see it, and then link back to the original thread, and ask how he is doing now.

This is what I meant in my reply about very old threads that get dragged out - this one was 2009, so "tomorrow" has passed by a bit.

In some forums here on HW they lock some of these old ones just to keep them off the "front page", although we have not gone that route.

If you are interested, in each post, the member's screen name is in blue text. If you click on that, you can see some details - email, when they joined, when they last logged on, and a link to the last 10 postings. When I see an old thread "come to life", that is my first place to go. It is a function open to all members.
