Time to shrink prostate using Lupron?

Does anyone have an idea of how long it would take to shrink a 61.5cc [img]/community/emoticons/turn.gif[/img] prostate using Lupron to 50cc?

Only a guess (s.w.a.g.-scientific wild ass guess) but the docs seem to point to about 3 months as the big bang for buck theory on LHRH drugs, by that time frame it should have done enough to become a low point because psa level detection should be way down (maybe non-dectectable levels)by then and thus done mostly what it can do. After that keeps the PCa normal cells(hormone sensitive type) at bay for various lenghts of time, that varies patient to patient and factors of gleason scores-aggressiveness-type or variant of PCa I am sure all plays a role. Yeah I could be off the preciseness on this, just basing this on my own experiences. It could also shrink it in perhaps less time 2 months, could have ultra sound or tests done to measure such size difference. Maybe someone else has a more precise answer.

My docs think that 6 to 8 weeks on Casodex and proscar is enough to shrink a 60mm prostrate. I would assume the same for Lupron alone, but would add Casodex and proscar for added benefit with few additional side affects.
I assume that your are shriking it because you will be going on some type of radiation treatment.
A volume study should be done at the 8 week mark to see the effects and a few more weeks may be needed to get to the correct size.

thanks I will run it by the radiation oncologist that I am seeing on march 15th,and yes I am planning on having seeds only put in when I shrink  the prostate down. tongue

I visited the radiation oncologist today,He gave me two options

1.take Lupron w/Avadort to shrink prostate,about 6 to 8 weeks,then 5 weeks of external radiation,then two weeks of rest and then seed implantation.

2.take Lupron ,shrink prostate, do seed implantation,but he said that he doesn"t recommend this as the probability rate of cure is less then the first method.

I now have a choice between The DaVinci robotic surgery or these other methods.Any inputon these would be appreciated.

Age 68

both lobes cancerous

3+3=6 left side

4+3=7 on right side

left nerve can be saved ,right nerve must go

have been using Levitra for 10 months,sex is ok with it

willing to lose some errectile function ,

do not want to become incontinent

today I have decided to go with DaVinci Robotic Prostatectomy on May21,2009,I feel this one is the best for me ,thanks for all your replies to my Questions.

I was on Lupron for 8 mos, it didin't shrink. Did the radical prostemtectomy. Stayed on Lupron for 6 more months. Then it quit working, so now I'am on Zoladex, six months so far. Just had a psa test, now.08<.02,.04,.06,.07>

thanks for that info,why did your doc say that you couldn't use radiation,after prostatectomy,I was told that if the cancer was outside the prostate then they could use radiation?

Something about it would do too much damage in the bladder/ureatha area. Sorry it took so long to get back to ya. I haven't been on much lately, tends to get too depressing for me.

On December 17th, I began ADT with a 22 mg shot of lupron and 50mg of Bicalutamide per day.  According to the final surgery report my prostate had measured 60cc's at the last CT scan. At the time of surgery on February 19th my prostate size was measured at 20 cc's.  I had a psa of 243 and gleason score 9.
