Dear Jake:
With the brief post you provided it's hard to do anything but wish you luck. However, hopefully you have answered these questions to your satisfaction:
1. Do you know how many surgeries your surgeon has performed and with what results? If it's not more than 300, run the other way.
2. Will your surgeon actually be at the contols or will a "student' be driving?
3. Did you consult with another surgeon for a second opinion?
4. Why is your surgeon doing the procedure so soon after the biopsy? Most practioners wait longer than one month.
5. Have you considered a more in-depth biopsy, e.g. color doppler or 3D mapping?
6. Did you consult a radiation oncologist for an opinion about radiation as a treatment?
7. Did you consult a prostate oncologist for an unbiased overall view of your cancer?
8. Have you considered some of the newer protocols, e.g. TFT, HIFU or proton beam?
9. Have you read, read, read the many excellent books on prostate cancer treatments?
10. Have you thoroughly researched the internet so that you have a good understanding of what to expect from the different options?
Assuming you have done all of the above, I congratulate you on making an informed decision and wish you great success in your treatment. If you have not, please re-read realziggy's post and consider taking some time to decide. This is a big deal.
