Hi there,

 

My name is Robert Davies, I am 39 years old. In 2008 I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer which had claimed the life of both of my male grandparents and my father also had it but had since recovered.

 I have written an internet blog which details my journey through prostate cancer and is very detailed and personal covering both the physical as well as mental aspects of the illness.

 

The blog is located at www.robdav.co.uk/blog. I was hoping that perhaps the information within the blog would be useful to others who are going through this illness, especially younger men. If you can find a use for this can you let me know?

Welcome to HealingWell. This is the best site I could find on the web for information sharing and support. I joined the site at 44 with advanced prostate cancer. Had I undergone screening, I might have had it at your age. We do have members in their 30's here, or at least when they started out. And I have met a few guys at your age and it pains me to see it. My initial glance at your website looks like it's very well done. I too took to blogging and have also taken to prostate cancer advocacy work. Like I intend to, you should keep it up. Awareness is a valuable donation and your experience will raise eye brows. Welcome again, and thanks for joining us...

Welcome to HW! Glad you found us here! After reading your blog, I think you will make a great addition to our family! We are a site or PC patients, caregivers and friends and represent most walks of life, stages and treatment options.
We actually just had a thread that included family history and a veteran member with a family history mentioned that he was going to have his son get tested at 35 and you are a living example of exactly the reason why men with a family history should not wait to get their PSA tested. We welcome you and encourage you to keep us posted on your progress and share with those that are newly diagnosed. Congrats on your entry to the "zero club" as we call it here and may your future be filled with undetectables!!! Welcome!

Your not alone!! I was diagnosed the week after I turned 37. It has been a battle both physically and mentality as you know. These are the cards we were dealt and we must make the best of it. Take a positive approach, we are lucky we caught it now!!

Thank you for your kind words :)

When I set up to write the blog it was simply meant to be a dumping ground for my thoughts and feelings during my journey. I really didn't think it would turn into the size or level it has done.

One of the major realisations I had was that the information it contains could help others who are also facing the journey, and that If I could get the link out to as many people as possible then perhpas it might help someone.

There are so many men going through this, each one with a different story, each with their own mountains to climb, but ultimatley each travling the same road. Some make it, some don't, but with each step, with each push forward we come closer to understand this aweful illness and perhpas a cure. That alone is the reason why I will continue to spread the word to friends, family, co-workers, random people in the streets, on the internet, and beyound.

I'm recently diagnosed (at 43), getting ready to start the whole journey. Thanks for the blog, it is really informative, helpful and a bit scary so far (I haven't finished reading it all). Good luck to you and your journey.

Welcome to Healing Well and thanks for your blog. There are many things that you have written about that I can relate to. It is clear that each of us share certain events in this journey, both positive and not so positive. Will read more Sunday, but your writings are very insightful.

Greetings, Rob.  Great blog - thanks for sharing your experiences.  I also have a strong family history of prostate cancer and have told my son he needs to get tested at 35.  It seems to affect guys younger and younger.  The best thing we can do is to get the word out and we appreciate your doing so with your blog. Congratulations on your good progress and we trust you will stay with us - you have a valuable contribution to make.  Thanks for all you ahve done and will continue to do.  David

My younger brother first got checked at 35. The doctor thought he was nuts. I waited until my early 40's. My father was diagnosed at 52. I was 53 when my internist made the appointment with the urologist and 54 when the tests came back.

It is only too early until they find something. I moved, changed jobs, and then started a business between tests. The resultant delay almost made it too late.
