I just had my 3 mo PSA test today. It was 2.6, up from 2.3. Doc says that's not a significant change. He says next check will be 6 months instead of usual 3 & wants to do my annual biopsy at that time. I'm trying to live life as normal as possible, but the PC thing is always in the back of my mind. Some days I just wonder, why me? But then I look around & see those that are a lot worse off than me. I think I'm prepared to someday deal with a solution, but until I have to, I'm a watchful waiter.

Hi Uncle:

I know many of the guys on this site would not WW even if they had the chance.  But, if it's any support, if I had your stats when I was diagnosed, I would have done what you are doing in a heartbeat!  I think you have made the right decision and I hope you are one of those guys who is still watching 30 years from now!

You've done a great job Harley...
And so has your doctor in prescribing another biopsy in 6 months. Proper watchful waiting should include evaluating the tumor charactaristics. I hope you don't worry too much. It is the hardest part about waiting...

Thanks for checking in. We don't have enough AS guys on this site and so it is good to hear from someone who has taken that path. As far as the PC thing never being far from your mind, let me remind you of heart attack, stroke, and being shot by a jealous husband. Each of us is going to die from something but AS is done because because it is not reasonable to assume that PC is that thing.

By the way, when I mention the shot by a jealous husband possibility to my wife, she reminds me that shot by an irate wife has higher probability!

The Prostate Cancer Research Institute's web site has a whole section of papers on Active Survelience.
It seems that if your PSA doubling time is greater than three years then you should have no problems.
Please keep us posted. Your stats look very good.

Congratulations Uncle Harley and we'll hope for many more readings that don't signal intervention.  There aren't a lot of us here following AS.  How long have you been at it?  It will be 3 years for me this fall.  Take care.
