For those following this journey, I have updated in the original post so I can attempt to keep everything in one log.

As you can imagine, we're thrilled with the latest PSA score and thank all those for their support as we continue on this journey.

Continued good news for those following our journey - we're on the one year follow up plan and the most recent PSA score is a wonderful 0.22 as of July, 2009!

Great news. Keep posting.

I'm in my last 8 days if IMRT after seed implants. So far no side affects from either treatment. My psa is ^ 0.1 (started at 40). Doc says it's due to the Casodex not the radiation: I'm off Casodex next month, hope it stays down.

I'm not sure about the actual timing of his PSA spike but I believe it was around 18 months - he went from 0.9 to 1.8 - yikes!  He then settled back in and has been on a steady downslide since then with the most current PSA score (July 2009) sitting at 0.22.

Thanks Julie. My husband went last week and we got the letter yesterday saying his PSA value is 3.7 and in the normal range. It was 4.5 before he started the implants which was a year ago this month. Doesn't seem right to me. Called the doctor but he is away until Monday so I'll call again. Seems to me it should be lower but at least it didn't rise.

Out of curiosity, what causes these "bumps" or "spikes" in the psa readings around 18 months after the procedure?

I wish I could tell you (and I wish someone had warned me) because it certainly caused more than a "bump/bounce" in my heart rate!  The Brachytherapist looked at the number and simply said, "we see it all the time, not to worry".   Trust me, easier said than done but she said there is statistical data indicating it is perfectly normal - she didn't explain why though ...

The bounce is cause by radiation proticitis, the prostate cells are dying and give off thier last gasp of PSA at about 18-20 months.
