I stayed up late to watch it. I must say we are finally making strides in awareness and getting the guys to talk. I have rated, by my opinion, some of those who were on the show...(an asterisk is a star 1-5)
John McEnroe ~ *****. John pushed hard on early screening and awareness. He was very intelligent and willing to discuss the issues from treatment options and side effects. He is new to the game but he is willing to use his name in the fight and I liked it...He was very on top of the recent change in the AUA guidlines to start testing at 40. His Line "the name McEnroe and Ambassador don't usually go hand in hand" in describing his efforts was splendid. John, they do now!
Colin Powell ~ ****. This was an older clip. This man has incredible influence, especially among African American men. I did not care much for his decision to eliminate discussion of ED or incontinence. He had surgery and he did acknowledge issues for several months but he left the details out. I very much respect this man and wished he could be more
open...I hope he would be more willing to discuss this in future interviews.
Rudy Guiliani ~ ****. This was an older clip. Rudy admitted that he had seeds with external beam radiation and hormone therapy. This is a great combination but he did not elaborate on side effects and progress well.
Dr. Christopher Rose ~ ****. Dr. Rose is a radiologist/oncologist. he was very accurate in his assessments and very straight with his information. He avoided discussion of which he thought was better, but still touched on side effects well.
Michael Milken ~ *** or ****. I would give Milken an extra star just for his work in prostate cancer. He stopped short of recommending age 40 for ALL men as a good starting point for all men to be screened. Look at my signature and that's a two star deduction in my book. He also missed the mark on side effects.
Joe Torre ~ *****. Joe was honest, forthright, and unfortunately is dealing with advanced prostate cancer. He had surgery, radiation and hormone therapy and, as he said, is still managing the disease. This to me indicated G8 or higher plus stage 3 or 4. He spoke about
ED incontinence and said he is "functioning". He told us that he is still being tested every three months and that is consistent with continuing hormone therapy.
Jerry Lewis ~ **. This was a very old clip. He said he was cured by surgery and he doesn't have to worry about
it anymore...Nope I didn't like that at all.
John Kerry ~ ***. Again an older clip. Kerry had surgery. He seems to be doing well, but he does not speak about
much.
Bob Dole ~ ***. Same as Kerry.
Don Imus ~ *. Uh he totally downplayed his disease. Was not informative and did not elaborate on anything. I would have liked him to be more
open and less lackadaisical.
Charleton Heston ~ *. He did not die of prostate cancer and the clip really had no information other than he dealt with it.
Merv Griffin ~ **. Merv admitted he ignored a dangerous disease. And he paid the price. I really wanted to give this 4 stars. Ignoring the disease is just plain wrong...So then I conclude also is not screening.
Larry King ~ *****. Nice job. He brought the discussion out and he did us all a favor.
CNN ~ ****. Really missing was the controversial issue of alternative treatments, effects on families and spouses, as well as outside questions. All in all it was a good program. Only so much you can do in an hour...
<Note: On a second viewing I upgraded Colin Powell. I thought after viewing the second time that I missed how well he articulated a positive attitude. Very nice>
These are my assessments and I welcome yours...
