Well HOwdy Folks.

It's Friday, 2pm and I have hi-jacked one of the computer terminals from the nurses.

I am waiting on the nurse to come in and change the dressings, show me how it's done and then I can leave to go to my apartment.

I have a little abdominal discomfort, but not what I would call real pain.  I have not had any pain meds since I came out of the revocery room.

I was surprised to wake up in recovery having only the Supra Pubic Catheter.  The doc. said that the surgery went so well they didn't feel it necessary to put the Foley in for the one day in the hospital.

The Dr. came in last night and again this morning to make sure I heard and understoon what he had to say. 

From physical appearances the cancer appeared to confined to the walnut. I will know in five days. 

He was successful in sparing all the major nerves and quite a few of the minor.  On a scale where 100 would be the best you could ask for , he gave me a 94.  I'll take that result any day of the week.

Just clear food yesterday. This morning was oatmeal and scrambled eggs. Lunch was baked fish, masked potatoes, cooked carrots, iced tea, banana pudding and Italiam Ice.  Not bad huh?

More later when I can sit a little longer. Gotta go do some laps.

Congratulations Sonny!!!

It sounds like it could not have gone better.

Dr. Menon did my surgery 3 years ago, but I didn't see him after the surgery.

I stayed in the apartments by the hospital too.

How do you like their program there?  I thought it was a very smoothly functioning system.

Sonny,

Sounds like it could not have gone much better, and I didn't use a computer for 4-5 days after my surgery. And your eating a gourmet menu compared to my popsicles. Keep us posted on your progress, but so far it is impressive. Best to you and your family.

Wonderful News Sonny! Sounds like you are not only back on the other side, but feeling pretty darn good for someone that just had a major complex surgery. Hard to believe you don't need pain meds, and great news on the nerve sparing. Had good feelings about your surgery episode. Don't forget to rest too, brother, the walking is great for you, but your body still needs to rest and heal.

Great news Sonny!! First post I have seen post-op from the hospital.

Good luck with your recovery...dont forget to eat some prunes or prune juice helps everything get out easier....

I agree with James C. But I'd add "pee" in there too. If you hook your cath to 50 ft of tygon tubing you can plumb it right to the sump pump. That way you'll sleep through the night with no worries. ;-)

Great news. It sounds so good that you might become the poster boy for “recreational prostectomys” a new form of vacation fun.

As to Jeff’s 50 feet of tubing, well, we can be glad that he was trained as an engineer rather than a zoologist. Otherwise he might be suggesting that you train a bucket brigade of monkeys.

Glad to see you on the other side Sonny. Rest and don't over do it. You have been through alot and it will take sometime to fully recover.

Sonny,

Congratulations on your successful surgery and recovery. Glad to hear that you have made it out of surgery with little pain. Stories like yours are encouraging for us that still need to make the trip. I've scheduled my dance with the Dr. Menon for Nov 17th and hope I can say the same after my surgery.

Good luck and have a good trip back to Fla.

Wow, you make it sound so simple. Couldn't be happier for you. Maybe it's those great surgeons we have up north here !

(no, no, not another North South thing )

Have a safe trip home, and good luck on your path report. Maybe you can stop by New York on your way since you are doing so good.

Sonny: Welcome to the other side I am so happy that things are going so well. Just remember you have had a major surgery and you must take time to heal. Don;t over do it.

Thank you one and all from the bottom of my heart.  Your blessings and supoort have meant so much to me and my wife.  I think she may be lurking on the site from home but she hasn't fessed up to it.

You guys are the best.  I sure hope that I get the chance to meet you in person as time goes along.  I would have gone to the weekend gathering, but it is just a little close to my surgery.

Maybe we should think about having some sort of gathering in Orlando.  I'm sure we could figure something out.

Sonny --- thanks for checking in. I logged on from the office this afternoon shortly after you posted and was going to reply, but our VP Sales came in with some good news, and these days sales good news gets my attention!

So, here I am back to leave this note of thanks, best wishes, and congratulations.

One thing my surgeon said to me which I found very helpful was I was to remember that although the surgial scar might be an easy heal, my post op energy high because I'd only lost an ounce of blood, my ability to move without pain good because he hadn't sliced open a large muscle mass, these were but mostly surface events. In my belly the robot had "inflicted the same Massive assault my scalpel did when I did open surgery."

Isn't it wonderful to be out the other side and know the #%&*! is gone?

Sonny, please keep me posted on what you think and how you are doing with the suprapubic catheter. To my knowledge, you are the only brother here that had one coming out of surgery, as opposed to the standard foley cath coming out of the weiner area.

From what I understand, once it exits your side, it works like any other cath, with the leg bags and what we call the big bag, and there is a "y" where it exits, one for the exit tube and one to inflate/deflate the balloon. I will be interested in when its time to have it removed, how that goes, etc.

Are you getting much if any irratation from where it exits? Does it hurt at all at that point? I assume its bandaged?

There's still a likely chance in my ongoing saga, that the next step for me might to have one installed, could be cath #8 since last November, but this time, it would stay in the entire time of radiation and perhaps 2 months after, meant to ease some suffering and act as a pre-emptive strike against blockage and retention issues that both the rad. oncl. and my uro/sur know is going to happen.

Hope you are still healing well, my brother. You have done great, and should be a good future source of hope and encouragement to any new brother considering your path.

Enjoy the catheter. It doesn't cost you anything to pee while it's in. Get your money's worth out of it. Jeff

Congrats Sonny on getting to the other side. I also had the Supra Pubic cath and it worked well. Dont forget to walk and I used one stool softner each day, two was too much.
