Hi Patti,
I had seeds (brachytherapy) Jan 08. Had some probs with urinary urgency and probs passing urine, but they diminished over several months. Also experienced burning during urination and rectal burning on urination and with BM's. Also have IBS, which prob agravated the situation.
However, in April 09, Drs declared failure of the seeds and started me on hormone Lupron. Have had two incidents of bleeding when passing constipated stool. Subsequent BM's negative for blood. Not sure if due to hemorrhoid or rectal irritation from delayed effect of seeds. Lupron causing hot flashes (just like menopause in women), some loss of muscle mass (lifting light weights to help), and some breast enlargement (not severe). I'm very positive and living life pretty normally.
Despite above, I would prob choose the same treatment since I was 68 when dx'd. Drs felt that it was as effective as surgery, which I would prob not have tolerated very well. The procedure is a breeze - gen anesthesia, home the same day, wear catheter overnight (prob took it out a little early but thought I was in the clear). Already had some ED before proced so not too concerned about that. Wife very understanding.
As others have said however, surgery after seeds is not a likely option. So that should be a major consideration. Good luck in making a decision.
