Hello David,
The "sitting on a broom handle" pain I experience is mostly horizontal. It is intense now and is becoming worse with the passing of time. I am certain the pain originates from the mesh being wrapped around my lower pelvic bones aka rami. This wrapped area causes a "raised area" on the other wise level bone structure. This raised area compresses the nerves and tissue severely when I am sitting. I now need to sit on cushions or refrain from sitting at all for some relief. The pain from this area continues long after I go to my bed at night. I continue to take Vicidon before bedtime to enable sleep.
I also have additional pain and stinging caused from the lower tensioned mesh arms of this sling. I often experience severe burning, under the skin, near the creases between my legs and groin area. These tightly tensioned lower mesh arms feel like HARD plastic rods that extend from the wrapped area around my lower pelvic bones to the miserably HARD mesh platform located inside my scrotum. The skin on my scrotum remains basically untouchable due to continuing pain.
To make matters worse, if possibe, I went from 1-2 pads per day pre-surgery to 3-4 pads post surgery which was almost 4 months ago. Intercourse remains unthinkable due to the ongoing intolerable pain.
I was recently examined by the experts at The Cleveland Clinic. They do not implant the Coloplast Virtrue mals sling there but are willing to remove this tortuous device from my body. During this upcoming surgery, I will be implanted with an AdVance male sling if my condition permits. The AdVance sling is MUCH LESS invasive than the Coloplast sling and I do not anticipate any problems with it.
I will soon be in the unenviable position of being implanted with both slings. I will keep those that are interested informed. I would appreciate hearing from others that have had problems with the Coloplast sling. My email:
