Interesting Blog regarding Coloplast Virtue sling Inventor

My doctor, Dr. Nitti, had to cancel my 3:30 appointment on Monday October 19, 2009 and so Lainie and I struck out at 4:00 AM to catch the 6:30 Lucky Star bus from South Station. They were great about changing the tickets and off we went.
We then walked the 2.3 miles to the doctor's office (23rd and Lexington, just up Bowery and Park Ave - a nice day for it) and were seen almost right away at about 12:00 noon. After discussions with his beautiful assistant, Dr. Nitti came in and confirmed most of my conclusions and dashed any hopes of attempting the new Coloplast Virtue Incontinence Sling for Men. He says there is no data on it. He doesn't even know if it works the way it should and he was one of the inventors. He implies that, although a good product, it has received more positive hype than it clinically deserves. So, for me it isn't a good option at this time. Coloplast pitches it for those with moderate to severe incontinence - severe is what I have. He thinks that claim is a bit optimistic especially in the light of the lack of any real world data yet. They are selling it as one might the Sham-Wow, on personal testimonial only. It would not be appropriate for me to be a test rat.

BTW Dr. Nitti is one of seven inventors involved in the design of the Coloplast Virtue sling. His facility is also listed as one of the eight sites recruiting for Coloplast Virtue Clinic Trials in the USA and he is listed as a principal investigator.

I just had the new "Virtue installed by the same -Dr. Nitti

I had a radical prostectomy about 3 years ago at Memorial Sloan Kettering , and have had a high degree of incontinence since. I've used pads, clamps, you name it, since then. I was interested in the Advance male sling, and Dr. Nitti, was willing to insert it. By the way, 1 1/2 years ago, Memorial Sloan kettering were still only using the Invance, which in my opinion is not quite as effective.

I  did very extensive research on this entire matter.

Anyway, Dr. Nitti also told me that this is relatively new, but in my case I might get better results with this procedure "Virtue," but of course, there are no real guarantees. On the surgery day, I decided to go with "Virtue"

I am totally dry!!! It seems to be working perfectly

I found Dr. Nitti to be very professional in all respects,. By the way, he has placed about 200  male slings in patients. I would highly recommend him

I had seen the post you are referring to and went ahead anyway with the Virtue surgery
While I'm sure that person is in pain, I would wonder about the following...
Who did the surgery and when?
How many slings had been done by that doctor before this one?
Type of pain, location etc

I'm not pushing or selling this procedure, and anyone who feels it is too new should not try it, but a few other things should be kept in mind....
There are doctors across the country doing this procedure now and this is the only negative post I can find.

Also, "Virtue" is very similar to "Advance," except it has one more 'arm" holding the sphincter area up to promote compression. So doctors who have placed a large number of "Advances" would have pretty much the same procedures for "Virtue" and therefore their experience counts.Anyway, I hope that person finds a good solution and I hope this procedure will help others as it has helped me
