Well, the dr. said to leave the foley in for a min. of 3 days after Tuesday's surgery, then my wife could remove it. We let it stay in 4 full days, just to be safe and give one more day of healing time. Woke up this AM, and it was my idea to stand in the shower for the big removal. My wife attached the needless syringe to the catheter port, and I asked her to extract slowly like my dr. does (causes less back pressure pains insided), well, hydraulics worked on their own, and the pressure of the saline filled the syringe on its own, pushing back the plunger. She detached it, emptied it, and re-attached to make sure there was no more in the balloon. 2nd syringe only got a few drops.
The standing is a great idea, and being in the shower stall makes it easier to clean up. She said, you pull it out, unless you want me to. So, remembering how the dr. did it last time, I slowly but smoothly pulled it out, kind of finger over finger, in about 4 weird, but not painful feelings, the nasty thing slipped out of my urethra and onto the floor of the shower.
What a sigh of relief. For the record, that was the shortest lifetime of any of my 14 catheters, this bad boy only got to stay 4 days.
I still have the fully operational SP catheter #14 in place. In a week or so of additional healing, we will start testing the bladder neck by plugging off the SP and see what natural ability I have to pee in the normal manner. If it works, great, if not, the SP cath is in place and will continue to work as needed, avoiding any emergency and painful situations.
Still hurts like hades down there, that whole bladder neck region feels raw and enflamed as they described, but hopefully, as the day, and weekend goes by, I will be back to more managable levels of pain.
So far, so good, have to be thankful for each small step in the long, involved process.
